Hi there guys,
This topic may have been posted before but i wasn't sure. Im looking at getting a Stainless steel air intake from the air box to the TB, i know stainless steel will heat up quick under the hood but does anyone know is you can heat coat stainless?? And if its pricey? And if they know of anyone in the Melbourne area? I was going to go mild steel and paint it with ceramic heat proof paint but the stainless caught my eye that i saw on some other cars. Any help much appreciated Cheers Lowlane98 |

U can get it ceremic coated , expensive though .
Not many people really bother heat proofing it. I don't think you'll notice a differnce

just wrap it.

coating or wrapping ruins the shiny fap factor though... honestly the air is moving fast enough inside for it not to be a problem.

If you are going to get it Ceramic Coated, why not get a mild steel one and coat that. The coating will cover the Stainless anyway and it will also protect the Mild Steel from any corrosion.
On reality the airflow will be so great that the air will not have any time to warm from the metal. Just think that you have a 4 litre motor do say 2,000rpm. look at the air flow, it will be very high. Heatsink is going to be next to nothing. Any pipework untreated in the engine bay will heat up to similar temperatures. Difference being that different metals will absorb heat a different rate as is the disipation (cool down) rate differnet also. With this in mind it would be just as effective to get a mild steel pipe and paint it with decent enamel paint ( Engine Enamel etc ). Your call but there is no need to get too tied up on the matter. |

What if i got the intake pipe made out of stainless steel and then paint it with vht clear coat engine enamel??
Do you guys think that might work? its basically the same as getting it in mild steel and painting it anyways isn't it? Cheers |

Why would you clear coat stainless? Paint is not an insulator and stainless doesn't rust....
