|
i have the s pack dash in my eb that has the oil pressure gauge built into it... but everytime i start the car on the gauge just goes as high as it goes (i dont think its connected)
can anyone tell me how to connect this gauge up ? (its not the standard dash that was in the car... the car is a EB series 2

You have to change over the small oil light sender switch, in the block near the oil filter, to the much larger pressure gauge sender unit.
To remove the smaller switch I use a 1" [26mm?] impact, or long tube socket, from under the car. To install the larger unit you will need a 14 or 15mm open spanner to tighten it after screwing it finger tight, also from under the car. Try and get one from a wreckers, any E series 6cyl with an 'S' dash will do, I forget the retail but they're about $50 trade from Bursons and don't look quite the same as Ford's unit [which I'm told are much more expensive]. I forgot to add,
If you have the larger [bell on a stalk] unit already fitted just make sure the electrical connection is plugged onto the terminal on the end of it. If it's a squat little unit, proceed as above. Paul

yea im pretty sure its the bigger unit
there is one wire coming off it ... where should this wire be going ? thanks.

All I know is that it joins into the engine wiring loom, under the inlet manifold, from there it probably goes to the ECU and the result is sent to the dash.
Make sure the contacts are clean, if it still not working correctly it's probably the sender more than the circuits, as you said your needle moves at IgOn. Paul

i have a high volume oil pump... could it be that high volume that its pushing the needle right up to max ? or is max just way too high ? ... could it be possible that the sender is damaged ?
is it only ea-eb senders that will fit or will ed and ef el fit too ?? thanks

Fist, did you change your oil filter? it may be clogged, and the bypass may not be working.
EB2's hot oil pressure should be about 300-340kPa @ 2k revs. [ abt 45-50psi] I think the dash gauge can take a lot more than that, but I'm only guessing. Screw in a test gauge and find out exactly what oil pressure you have at 2000rpm and at idle. The documentation with the 'high volume pump' should give you it's expected pressure and flow, some are not much more than std. pressure, if at all. The oil pump has to stay within limits bound by the seals capabilities so the existing sensors should work. Barring a huge oil pressure reading with new filter fitted, which may mean you need a hiflo oil filter, I think the sender is stuffed but you can't be sure unless you test it EA-ED fit and I think EF & EL will too but I'm not positive from memory. Get Bursons, Repco, Ford or your local parts shop to check the part numbers for EB2 and EL, Tridon make a non-genuine unit. Cheers, Paul
