I am hoping someone can help me with an ignition problem that has surfaced today/last night.

When I try to start my EF, the starter motor will crank over a couple of times, and then it is replaced with a "wheezing" sound which continues until I turn the key from "start" back to "on".

This loud wheezy noise slows and stops with a loud "clunk"

The car runs straight LPG, and was running fine untill yesdaywhen I went to start it up...a massive bang ensued from under the bonnet when I started it up. I ducked under the bonnet to put my airbox back together, and it took nearly 20 minutes to get the bloody car started.

On the way home it ran like s**t, and all I could hear was a loud hissing/sucking noise coming from the intake side of the motor...I popped thebonnet when I got home last night but could not identify the source of this noise. I turned her off to stop anything getting worse...and now it wont even start.

Any suggestions would be great as it is a long weekend here in Perth, there will be no mechanics around for another couple of days.

Yeah, sounds like a fukn vacuum cleaner. I will be running over the engine bay with a fine tooth comb tomorrow, but I will need to start the bloody thing at some stage.

All my hoses look okay upon early glances, I'm hoping it isn't anything around the bbm intake itself.

sounds like starter motor to me. the wheezing sound means its not throwing out far enough to mesh with teeth on flywheel and freely spinning. bit hard to reach with a hammer or something to give it a knock when it does it.

Okay I have managed to get the pig started (starter motor is dodgy)...when it misfired/backfired yesterday a couple of hoses got blown off. I have hooked em all back up. Now; when the motor is running there is still a loud hissing/sucking sound...and it idles like s**t.

I have traced the problem to a little twin hose fitting under the injector rail on the middle of the bbm...it looks like it is missing one of it's hoses (the one close to the bbm itself, the one toward the motor is connected).

I have searched the entire engine bay for a stray hose but there appears to be none. When I put my finger over the fitting it idles fine (like normal).

Would there perhaps have been a cap on this fitting that may have been blown off when the car backfired/misfired? I have had a cluey mate search the engine bay as well, there definately seems to be no hoses laying about unconnected.

it is not the inlet gasket u motha f****r.

Ok i encounted this problem many a times when i was running LPG and it sounds like you are having the same little problem. Ok the first thing is to block up that hole somehow (easy when in the A/V industry with lots of little caps left over  ) then once that is blocked up, for heavens sake, take it somewhere to get it tuned up (LPG that is). Most dyno places will be able to do this.

enjoy

I think u mean the black plastic tree on the bottom of the bbm in the centre. It has one small pipe and a larger one. The larger one goes to the top of the rocker box at the back corner passenger side. I think thats the one ur talking off

yes but on some of the conversions, the one from the rocker cover actually goes to the throttle body and not to the the valve that you are talking about. Apparently it gives better response

Thats y if I go gas it will be direct injection. No buggering around with gas converters which are so far out of date its not funny.
