Just disconnect the battery before you start.
Didn't want to state the obvious but you'd be surprised how many accidents can happen from that. When my uncle done his apprenticeship he seen a guy lose his finger when his wedding band touched the power and earthed out. I used to wear a steel band watch, i was working on a forklift once and my band touched the pos side of battery (Still got me stuffed how and where it earthed)... Next thing i felt my wrist burning and reefed my arm back, the band was glowing red and burnt the f**k out of my wrist, had a huge blister after it. I jumped up and down screaming "f**k" lol as i tried to keep the band away from my wrist, i couldn't unclip it as that was the hot point where it welded. |

They're basically the same for all 6 cyl Falcons from XM upwards.
They're cheap as chips brand new as they're such a common part, you wouldn't bother with a reco or even second hand these days. |

Hey wicksy, its worth checking/replacing the relay as I think a crook relay can sometimes be the reason for a starter failing.

even though the starter from that motor might be ok, 160,000 kms is a really grey area. The starter that you pull off might not have much life left in it either. They can be reco'd cheaply enough
