howdy just wondered how do you start a engine raw on your work bench in the shed wether it be a ea - el engine because i am interested in learning and trying oneday as you told me before the ea 3.9 engines are give aways an oneday i would like to try it out oneday. is that just CFI or is it MPFI as well. the ea MPFI Manifolds are the same as the EB-2 ED MPFI manifolds as well arent they because i might try it on a ef engine oneday not sure when yet.i really want to know how to start a e series engine raw on the work bench or on the ground. i look foward to your reply

so EA -ED MPFI manifolds are the same type arent they and i still dont get you on how to start a e series engine raw what else do you need apart from the ECU e.g. a starter motor, battery

motor with all the injection gear on it (manifolds, wiring etc etc,)
You will need an ECU, and engine bay harness to suit, you need to splice the engine bay harness to provide KAM power and ignition power to the ECU, coil and injectors. You need a fuel pump, set up and powered, also a bell housing, flex plate and starter motor. Also you will need some kind of engine crate / stand / chainblock, as when it starts, it will more than likely tip over. Much easier and better off playing with it in the car. just pickup a whole CFI ea for $200 |

thankyou for your advice i might scan a wiring diagram for the engine management ans see what hapens not exactly sure when probably when i can find a EA-EL MPFI for next to nothing

Its a real pain in the a** to do it. It is SOOOOO much easier just to get a cheap car to drop it into (its not hard to get a falcon rolling body for free).
Basically you need to replicate what is in the car, so: - fuel sustem = tank, supply and return lines, pump, reg, electrics, etc - cooling = radiator, hoses, fans - exhaust = the exhaust itself + fans to bring in fresh air so you dont die. - engine management = the easy stuff, loom and ecu - ignition barrel/switch for starting - the engine itself, battery, bellhousing, starter, ... and then you need a frame to hold it all together which isnt trivial.

There might be another way....
XF Distributor, pre TFI might bold in to a 3.9/4.0 - just needs power and a coil. You should be able to use the CFI Manifold, and use a Webber Carby from an XF falcon on the CFI Manifold : Worst case you *might* need an adapter plate. No more need for a computer You might be able to gravity-feed the webber, or you could buy a not to expensive electric pump for it. You'll need a bellhousing to bolt the starter motor to, and an exhaust system/outlet of some kind. Oh yeah - cooling - say a garden hose will work for a few mins I believe. Nigel |

Nigel thats exactly what i was going to suggest.. i have done that a few times on engines that havnt been tested before they were removed.... |

Nigel for the record an xf dizzy does not fit into an e series block.. and you will need an adapter plate to make the carby bolt up.. but other than that it may just work -mitch
