i have the same problem on my EL...soon as u get to 100km/h you can feel the wabbles in the wheel. Is it hard to do the bottom end ones at the same time?

the bottom bearing at the firewall are needle rollers in a plastic casing, not all that hard to change. have to remove the steering column and remove the steering shaft in the engine bay. the bearing is about $60 from ford but that was for an el, i think its the same. if the car is equiped with airbag make sure to disconnect the battery before working on the steering column.

nice, so what about up the top, i assume there are some form of bearings at the top where the airbag and steering wheel connect.

id doubt if the top one needs replacing as the main load is on the lower bearing at the firewall, the lower one is also exposed to dust and heat from the engine bay. my car is an el and has done just over 160k it had a clunk over small bumps and would also clunk when the wheel was turned side to side, when i had out the coloumn i found no sign of wear at all on the upper bearing.
just make sure when replacing the bottom firewall bearing that the seal is seated, its a pain in the a** as it catches on the shaft and pulls away from the bearing. you will see what i mean. |

Hi, I own and EB1 Fairmont Ghia V8. It’s one of the first, but the lower bearing in the steering column needs replacement. Does Steering Link at Lovely Banks in Victoria still make replacements? Cheers Nigel
