i noticed my power steering fluid is droping on my alternator , is this commen??, pretty stupid that the alternator is positioned right under the power steering oil .
How much is it to replace the leaking power steering thingy?

its common if theres a leak anyway.
Depending on what it is will determine the price. It could be a split high pressure hose, or a bad connection between the high pressure hose and the power steering pump, or a broken power steering pump. |

yeah ok,,but i still can't figure out how you could not notice red fluid on the alternator
i noticed my leaking pump before it ever buggered up the alternator,,and i still have the same alternator.. were the buggered ones opened up and the results told to you,,trust me you could not but of noticed fluid leaking over the altermator..unless the top of your altenator was covered by something else

Mine does the same thing, and has done for about 2years now. I've not got around to fixing the problem, but believe its the connecting to the reservoir that is leaking. My alternator is covered in fluid and still cranks out full charge all the time. Mind you its a bit happier when I give it a clean, but otherwise has had no ill affects.
I only just have to top the reservoir up once a month or so. 1L bottle lasts a long long time. Dont loose any sleep over it...

But still i can see the massive oil driping on the ground outside in my driveway, a big black round ball of power steering oil , so i should just get it fixed i think/

you'll find they leak from the front seal. An exchange pump (reco) is only about $130-150. They take about 20 minutes to change. No big deal.
