Hi all, when i drive the falcon at low speed (say when parking) and turn the wheels its make a horrible clunking sound and then a screech, anyone know what could be causing this? it really sh*ts me. cheers.

i think my uncle had the same problem with the ea a while back, because everytime he turned a corner or braked and turned, as soon as he turned that same noise came from the car. I was with him at the time and said it was probably the brakes and sure enough it was, so he got them replaced and no more noise. And this only happened when he turned not if he just bracked in a straight line.

Where's the sound comming from? front wheels, rear wheels or underbody center?

me too. the guy today said it may be the sway bar bushes being worn. he didn't seem too confident though. maybe it is the brakes.
what exactly happens with the brakes? are they just clamping up or something?

Shugg f**k here we go I'm quoting myself now LOL. The reason I asked the above question is because he hasent mentioned where the noise is comming from. It maybe the brakes, but thats only an assumption at this moment. However, I had a problem like this at one stage and it turned out that I had sideways motion in the diff. I needed a diff overhaul. It was done with warranty, but it would cost about $250 if you don't have a warranty. It was the same problem, slow speeds when turning corners or pulling into a park. Shugg |

sounds like a powersteering pump and pulley.

it could also be a slipping fan belt?

sorry guys i havent looked at this post for a while, the noise seems to be comning from the wheels somewhere, the front right is more noticeable probably because I am closest to it. All i know is it seems to come from the wheels...

is it more of a clunking noise? or can u feel it in the sterring wheel? if so it may be your control arm bushes

Could be any number of things, your best bet is to get a friend to steer left and right for you while your car is stationary and you can just try listen near the tyre and find out where the sound is coming from
.. or better yet if you jack the front of your car up while you do it, you'll be able to get under and listen a lot more closely.. remember to have at least 2 reliable jacks dont want the car falling on you 
i had a similar noise and did the above and turned out to be my right lower arm ball joint was creaking, a couple of turns of the spanner and presto, no more noise!

Ahh man, This thread read my mind.
I have the same issue with my EL at the moment with the front left, It makes a noise when you turn the wheel only when its under pressure. If you lift the car and turn the wheel it wont make a noise, only when theres presure on it. So turning a corner you can hear it. anyway mechanic said its the parts on the end of the steering rack alittle ball thingy, cant remember the name i forgot. he said its like 45 bucks for a new one. As i said i cant remember the name of the part , but one of you probly know what its called and know exactly what im talking about , so name the part if you know for the others.

Sounds like you are refering to the tie rod end.
I had a similar problem with my car a few years ago. It only happened when braking and turning at the same time. Turned out that the bearing preload on the front wheel bearings was wrong and the disks were able to lean over a bit and touch the caliper mounting.

if its tie rod ends, you should also have uneven wear on your tires.
