my mate took me and my car for a quick spin the other day. in the car park he was a little rough with the power steering. told him to not wrench on it so much.

anyway we got back and i heard a cyclical metalic vibration or grinding noise near the power steering pump. only thing is i dont know if its the pump, the water pump or the timing chain guide.

i imagine i'll need a mechanic to diagnose it for me? i cant get a microphone to pick it up.

i think the bearings in the PS pump where always a bit suss, im not loosing water or over heating but i dont know about the chain guide.

Had this recently. Was an idler pulley. Maybe have a quick look at them.

You're not supposed to hold the pumps on full lock for too long afaik.
