I've got a strange noise that sounds like induction noise, It can only really be heard at idle, it's coming from the front of the engine and isn't always there, could it be a pulley or a belt, I'm not sure what timing chain guides would sound like but that's what I thought of first

Idle tensioner pulley bearings will do this to.

yea we had the same problem on our EBII Fairmont Ghia, it was the idler tensionor pully for the air con, we didnt know till the pully came straight off goin up a bridge.

Spray some water on the belts, if the noise goes away you know where to start if not i would be looking into a timing chain kit.

timing chain would rattle not make induction sounding noise wouldnt it?

Anything to do with the timing chain makes more of a high pitch whine. It's fairly rare to have anything go wrong with the timing chain guides unless you have recently had the head off the car or have been messing around there.

Ok today it finally gave me an answer, was driving slowing, noticed smoke coming from the bonnet, pulled over and withing seconds the power steering belt broke in front of my eyes, from the quick look I had the pulley which sits on the front of the engine doesn't look so good, so probably need to replace that and the belt
Problem solved. Ben |

But I was wrong.. didn't look, its an EB, no sepentine setup therefore no idle pulley setup, had to be a belt..
4dlvr for the win.. doh.
