Hi Folks..
My ED motor is displaying some weird missing. about 2 weeks ago, I replaced my sparkplugs with new Bosch Yitrium plugs.. as speced for ED motors in the catalog. It ran perfectly for a week.. then started missing, but only under loads.. normal driving is fine, but when you put the boot in now, there is a small flat spot just above idle and it misses as it goes up the revs. These new plugs are quite a bit colder than the old plugs (which were in the motor when I got it) So I thought.... perhaps they are fouled or something. I pulled all of them out, and every single one had only the faintest light brown/ light grey residue on it.. they hardly looked used at all. Checked the leads to dizzy.. gave everything a going over but found nothing that could explain the problem. Anyone have any ideas? |

your cat convertor could be blocked maybe?

Don't see how, the cat is about 6 months old, and it's a 3 inch Magnaflow that has been sleeved down to 2.5 inch to fit the pipe on it.
Also, this didn't happen gradually.. one day it ran smooth as.. the next day it missed. I did put some injector cleaner in the tank.. I'm wondering if it didn't release a heap of crap into the fuel filter and block it, but would that result in the missing I'm seeing? That brings up another question.. should I buy a genuine type fuel filter or do the repco plastic cheapies do a good enough job? Knew you were gonna say that.. If I pull out out I might as well replace it.. so that brings up another question.. should I buy a genuine type fuel filter or do the repco plastic cheapies do a good enough job?

Another symptom is that it seems to run better before it reaches operating temp.
really odd one, I don't know if changing the filter will help, I'm just clutching at straws because I can't think of what else it could be. |

did you say plastic fuel filter, on an efi , thats a no no , you should be replacing the steel one under the rear passenger seat / floor, where is the filter your talking about??????

My guess is coil. Iffy coils usually fail when hot, or under load which is what yours is doing.

Its pretty simple to check the leads - wait til its night/park it in the shed and give it some stick. the fkd lead will more than likely spark at the plug.
Having said that, when my coil died it felt like a lead, but far less frequent ie once or twice on each gear up to 100kmh. lead was once every second while i was up it lol. does it sound like its backfiring? I think I blew out part of my muffler when my lead died last weak, i think it filled with fuel and then ignited - my bumper was black, and the car sounds a lot louder now lol. |

yeah.. it does feel like it wants to backfire sometimes..
It is such a pain in the a** to get to the top of the dizzy though.. how did you guys change the lead? did you have to get under the car? Leads look like original motorcraft to me. rgds Frank |

my friends AUIII XR6 is doing the same thing at the moment.. and its gotten to the stage where you cant even "normally" accellerate. you have to only lightly touch the pedal or is misses and wont accellerate at all
