father inlaws efII ghia has a strange puddle under the right front,its a real light oil,i look under neath and it looks like it is dripping from sumwhere near the battery box cos it is running off rite underneath.its the colour and consistency of cooking oil,its left a fair puddle.so we pull battery out and it does seem to be comming from oround the battery box area...any ideas guys?

power steering fluid?

edit: brake fluid even? mines leaking from the master cyl but its dripping straight down, so perhaps one of the lines to the front right wheel?

Its not power steering oil is it? It could be coming out of the seal around the shaft, or possibly out of one of the fittings. But if its not engine oil, and its not power steering oil, the only other thing it could be is battery fluid?

sounds like p/steer fluid to me
perhaps pressure switch?

thanks guys but it is yellow like cooking oil,and all systems seem to be full,except tranny which we cant check,and the fluid for them is the same as power stering isnt it?

nope they are different.
p/s fluid is yellow in ef's i believe

But generally power steering fluid is ATF fluid, so yes, the same. Its definately coming out of the car? Dont have a cat or anything do you? :D

Also, check the transmission lines going into the radiator, and the join at the bottom if its there ;)

hahahaha no cat....it is definatley oil,if it wasnt for the fact its leaking down from near the battery box i would have thought sum one cooked chips on the road lol.

the oil ford reccomends for p/s is mobilfluid 424 not dextron which is a yellow colour. anyway, if you say yours is red that wount be it then.

could try degreasing all oer and running it and try see any leaks when the engine is clean?

i still think maybe brake fluid - from memory the brake fluid is very close to veg. oil! :)

brake fluid is normally a yellow colour, wont be trans becuase auto transfluid is a dark red colour.

but how you would get brake fluid there is beyond me, its an oily texture a assume

my guess its brake fluid of some sort
