Hey guys,

I'm currently running an AU motor in my EB. Its running the eb distributor system using an EL ecu. Anyway around the 1500 - 2000 rpm mark, the engine seems to become not very responsive. E.g if im on the highway going 90 and then put my foot down a bit - the speed does not really increase at all until it kicks down a gear.

So anyway I thought it may be a timing issue with my EL ecu so I put my old eb one back on. THe first thing I noticed was the base timing was now waaaay out. So i adjusted the timing to 10BTDC. Holy s**t it felt like I gained 50kw. It was faster and much more responsive throughout the whole rev range.

So then I put my EL ecu back in and to my surprise the timing was now waay out in the other direction. Even when I re-do the timing back to 10BTDC it is still sluggish.

I have tried another EL ecu incase mine was stuff but there was no differece.

Could someone please please help as its s**t me off really badly.

Cheers,
Rob

Bluecube my ED is now doing the same. It has an EL motor with an EL ecu. I'm starting to think it may be the knock sensor but unsure so I watch this thread and see what happens.

I've been trying to work out why an EB ecu would have totally different base timing than an el one. The main differences I know between the 2 ecus are:
- knock sensor, thermo fans, bbm switch.

I tried disconnecting the knock sensor but it didnt help. If it wasnt for the thermo fans i would just run the eb ecu coz it had so much more power- but the el one idled better though.

Another thing: when i tried the eb ecu and half floored it - i would hear this funny loud rattle noise - doesnt seem to be coming from the engine - maybe gearbox? If i rev it in park it wont do it. it only does it when actually moving.

For once I actually wish my car was running coilpacks so then i wouldnt have to fuk around with the timing!

Could someone plz shed some light on this for me?

The timing is different due to the different intake manifolds.

The EA-ED ecu's run a lot more timing in the lower half of the rev range.
That rattling noise you heard was pinging, and is bad for your motor.

hmmm ive recently changed the motor in my eb to a el 2 motor. had the eb ecu in for a few weeks till i ran the wires for the bbm switch etc. and seemed to go pretty hard. now i put the el ecu in yesterday and there really hasnt been much diff. just ideling high coz i need to get hold of a 1.2k resistor.

between changing the 2 i didnt have to change the timing tho .

good luck on finding ur prob.

Thanks voxace!
Is it normal for the eb timing to make the car have heaps more power down low?

I suppose there must be another problem reducing power then.

Did you have these problems at all when you did your au conversion voxace?

Thanks for your help :)

The only reason your getting heaps more power down low is because of the larger advance in the ignition timing, which is also causing your pinging.

If you put the EL ECU in then advance it say 8-10 degrees, you will feel the same amount of power down low as the EB ECU, and the timing curve will suite the manifold properly.
Meaning you will probably gain some top end power too.

Do you mean advance it 8 - 10 deg in addition to the normal 10BTDC Or do you just mean 8-10deg BTDC(coz thats what its on at the moment). . Cheers :)

Advance it further. I was running around 20 degrees BTDC on my AU motor / EL ecu combo in my EB.
