howdy in wondering how long would the average time be to strip all the wiring loom that does the whole car in an ED Fairmont/Fairmont GHIA because im interested in doing it at a self serve wrecker and keeping the wiring as spare parts for all the time i spend in doing that.
also how long does it take to take out the ECU, Climate control, EF thermo fans & the Instrument cluster, could you please give me the seperate average time lengths. also how long does it take to convert an EF/EL Engine to fit an ED Ford take the ED engines out, change the manifolds on to the EF/EL engines put the EF/EL Engine back in and swapping the auto gear box over and installing thermo fans as well could you please give me the sepereate times that you guys take at doing all the stuff. i look foward to your reply |

What your asking, is a long time. It would cost you a mint to pay someone to do it. If you got the knowledge, & the time, then do it yourself.

Of course you could save a fortune by selling the ED an buying an EF Fairmont. |

The fact that nobody answers your questions should tell you something. You asking how long a piece of string is - the answer is almost always going to be meaningless. If you want a wild guess as to what the average time will be here it goes. It may take you a lot longer or a much shorter time.
removing looms - Depending on how much you want to remove and how in-tack you want it - couple of hours to a day removing ECU - 5 minutes removing climate control - how much of it? removing thermo fans - 10 minutes removing instrument cluster - 10-15 minutes Convert EF engine to ed - 0 minutes Remove ED engine - 2-3 hours Swapping gearbox - 2-3 hours Installing thermo fans - (depending on how you plan on wiring/switching them) couple of hours. Now for the big hint - self serve wreckers dont charge you for the amount of time you spend, so just go to one and find out how long it takes you

I suspect it will take him a lot longer than that |

Ahh very true. So I guess then I have to split it up EL engine - 0 minutes EF engine - 10+ minutes (depending on access)

It will also depend on how experienced you are with working on cars, that you have all the tools necessary, and whether you've worked on E-Series' before.
