Looks like i'll have to replace my head in my AUI

From what i've heard the AUI's are poorly cast (as well as the EF's and EL's)

does anyone know much about which heads seem to do better than others and would be best suited to an AUI?

I was hoping to find a non-VCT xr6 tickford AUIII head, anyone know where i should look and how much to expect to pay?

quick question. Why do you need to replace the head? I'm under the impression that the only reason they need replaceing is if you've done heaps of ks or you've cooked it big time.

1st i have heard of the heads been weak
well dont use an e series head as then u will need a full e series valve train for it to work

my bet is to go for any au tickford ( ie xr6 hp head )

as this has the larger valves and cam

the only heads ive heard had poor casting were the ea 3.9 heads...

except the 94ab (ef head) supposed to have the best flowing ports std..
and the std au got the same size valves as the xr tickford heads..
otherwise the rest are as good as each other...

i found oil and what appears to be casting sand in my coolant, after pulling the head off, there are no signs of gasket leaks indicating that its the block or the head.

Take the head to a specialist and get them to check it. May save you some $

casting sand is common as this is what blocks the ford rads all the time

as it is pretty damn hard to remove it all

as for the oil no idea

u sure it is engine oil?

1st things 1st, go get the head pressure tested. smalled $$ outlay to determin IF your head is the issue, if it passes a pressure test, then you can look elsewhere, if it fails you know your looking for a new head.

When replacing parts test what you can, esp when it comes to larger components, they simply cost more $$.

If you have put a mild acid flush through the motor/head, you may well have flushed a pocket open, or a wall between galleries, but it may not have been in the head, could also just as easily be from the block as they are a cast item as well.

i just replaced the whole engine for 600 bucks was a bit of work but worth it i think, i fitted a series three VCT head in.

Its heavy as now on fuel because its still the AUI computer but it should all be good when i fit an XR6 computer.

the guy at the wreckkers said you couldn't just swap computers is that true?

i want to fit my MS2 that i built but i'm about to start semester and i don't want to spend too much time on it
