Ok, possibly the first major problem I've had in over a year of owning the falc. Its a 95 EF manual with extractors + 2.5" exhaust, and a larger intake.
Problem : Stutters under WOT, but only sometimes. I've reved it out a few times to see if the problem persists, sometimes I can get through third gear with no stuttering, other times it will stutter every 500-1000rpm from about 3000 til redline. Sometimes it will go through 1st and 2nd, stutter in 3rd, or go through first, stutter in 2nd and be fine in 3rd. I thought it may have been a bad batch of fuel, and that it would only do it under load - so I went up a very steep hill flat in 2nd. No stutter. So now I'm like WTF you cvnt of a thing make your mind up. I don't think its the headgasket, as there's only a small amount of moisture on the block, at about the 5th cyl, but its been there since the day I purchased the car, and it doesn't look like coolant (green). Cars been maintained with oil + filter changes regularly. it has new spark plugs, but the same leads as when I bought it. Coil? Headgasket? Something??? |

Yes.
Re: leads. I dont really want to fork out 50-80 for new leads, so I'll see if I can swap with my mates who has a set of brand new Bosch HiPo leads. |

i have had 2 cars thats have done this ... the first one was electrical (i replaced coil leads and plugs
and then the 2nd which took me aged to find i tried fuel filter i tried fuel pump leads coil plugs and still nuthin ... it was the cat in the exhaust breaking apart and when you pit the footdown sometimes bits of it jam up against the pipe blocking it causing a restriction in your exhaust therefore not letting air out and causing the car to stutter. hope this helps ESeriesAddict |

Both of those are possible - my cat got absolutely smashed up the day before hand along some gravel road.
I'll see if I can unbolt it and give it a shake. |

not legal but you could just take it of and shove a golf club handle down it to open up the hole and epmty out the broken bits

Possibly the leads or fuel filter. Before you buy anything, wait til night. Go out to the car and let it idle. Give yourself a few seconds for your eyes to adjust and if you see blue light running along your leads you know the leads are the problem.
**You have to be in near complete darkness so have the lights around you off and stay away from street lights

$50 for leads is stuff all plus you dont know how old they are so change em anyway. Fuel filter is stuff all too and at least you know when you last did them.
