I was wondering how a supercharged i6 would go up against a 5.0L v8?
My next car I was looking at buying is a EL fairmont ghia and I wanted a V8 but insurance and all will kill me so I was thinking about buying a i6 and fixing it up slowly and then supercharged it when im off my P's. What are they like comparison wise if I just get something like a bolt on vortech against a stock 5.0L?

s/c 6 will EAT a stock or mildly worked 5.0
it would take a fair bit of work to get an EL 5.0 to a point where it would keep up with a blown 6.

powerdyne 6psi kit maybe 160rwkw.. looking at a low 14.. PD 9psi maybe 170-180rwkw and maybe a flat 14 or a vortech >10psi 180+rwkw? and flat 14's maybe high 13?
just estimates. could be a bit off

Tickford enchanced i6 will beat an e series 5L short of the series 2 EL and the XR8sprint.

I've got time slips somewhere, where my EL i6 (non tickford) owns an EB XR8 Sprint Keeping in mind he was an Auto and I'm a manual.
It wasn't just one off.. his dial in time was 10.2, and I was running 9.8's

Yeah, the V8's aren't that quick.
If you can live without the sound, a stock six will just about keep up with a stock v8. The tickford 6's usually beat the 8's too. So mate if you go the usual cam/extractors route you'll be miles ahead of a stocko v8. Just watch out for the modified v8's. |

The thing is going back to your first post is insurance, I dont think anyone will insure a supercharged E series.

You want the power, it's going to cost you the fuel. Energy cannot be created or destroyed yada yada yada... fuel consumption is a moot point. I think the advice is this thread has been fairly sensible. A blown 6 will demolish a stock 8 but that's of little suprise seeing as there's not much difference in them standard. Run against a turbo 6 or a modded 8 and you may find yourself in a spot of bother. But for bolt on RWKW, doesnt get much easier than supercharging. Just be prepared to self insure your car and live with 3rd party.

THERS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBES....just remember supercharging creates a constant force on the motor thus wearing it alot quickier, youll ware the bores in no time...especially off the lioghts youll get some nice takeoffs and power is just increasing as the RPM goes up...it would be such a good fealing the you would be always red lining it or hiting the revlimiter. A 5.0 litre, cam, comp, ex, and diff should easyly see you in the 14's and still get a s**t better fuel economy than the blower...just rember, 14's IS NOT SLOW!!!

aaah... a well tuned I6 with blower should get the same fuel economy as a well tuned V8.
unless ofcourse when you're flogging it, then the car with more power will use more fuel (both based on well tuned cars) wearing the bores in no time? please, the engine *can* last ages even with a blower, it all comes down to how you drive it.
