These are made by Simota in Taiwan.
Cheaper pod filters like SAAS, 3A Racing, SCA which have rubber inlet molds are also made by Simota but sell generally $10-$15 cheaper due to not having a polyurethane base. Note: They all use the same synthetic cloth filter media, just with different colour dye. Simota, 3a racing etc did well in a performance pod filter shootout...... http://www.australianauto.com.au/HTML/Images/Air%20Filter%20Shoot%20Out.pdf Just clearing up some myths???????????????????????? Cheers and have a nice day....................

what that test doesn't show is how poor they all are at keeping dirt out of your engine.
that includes K&N and other high price filters of the same design. |

Id have to agree with tickford_6 on what he said. Although the cheaper brand filters might flow a lot more air than standard paper type filters and other bigger branded filters, they probably dont do as good a job when it comes to collecting dirt and other debris. So its a bit of a trade off in the end and they are only just air filters
The 3A filter did shape up to be a very good filter in terms of filtration and flow in that test though, not to sure on the quality and how long it lasts etc but its not bad for the price compared to K&N. Any one here using a 3A filter? |

Test the filtration with suspended air particles as opposed to surface particles (which will be affected by other factors such as air velocity and air flow pattern depending on the shape and flow characteristics of each filter and position relative to the surface from which particles are sourced).

On an other forum i use there is guy how has worked in filtration for years. out of his own pocket he bought begged and borrowed filter from people, both new and used and tested them for flow and efficiency (mean it ability to trap dirt). the results were not unpredictable.
oiled cotton and foam filters do a pretty bad job of filtering dust, this was also backed up by oil analysis from engines using these types of filters. it also showed that just because the filter is a paper type one, doesn't mean it flows poorly. and not all paper elements are equal. |

if you want to keep dirt out, use Donaldson filters. if you want flow, use a K&N.
if you want both, use a really big Donaldson filter. |

tickford have you heard anything about re-oiling K&N's being bad for flow?

I've been wondering recently about the benefits of a y piece and two hi filtration pods. double the flow potential with good filtering.. might be worth a look in if it could be done neatly (perhaps a box behind the front bar or something.)

In a blown set up possibly, but would have to be sucking a s**t of air to be at the point where you cant find a single filter that can provide adequate flow.
And as for looking sexy, it may, but then it won't be boxed either so will probably perform worse.

I totally agree with that, wouldnt see the need for more than one filter on a car without boost unless its a heavily worked NA which i still think wouldnt need dual filters IMO i reckon you'd lose a bit of air velocity spliting the intake into a y-piece and using 2 pods on a near stock or mildy worked NA - depending on the intake pipe sizing of course |

Just as well there is a supercharger bolted to the side of my engine then hey.....
I'd still box them though.. don't care about sexy in the engine bay.. it's all about stealth for me.. |

Which is why i mentionioned f/i I still think it would be less space consuming/less money to just get a bigger pod that can flow enough. The only car I have seen with dual pod's that was worth remembering was this black HR ute with the the 215i engine in it...dual pod's were purely for show though
