Hey Guys
Got some more teething problems with the ED. When taking off or changing gears at low revs the b**ch coughs and jerks around a fair bit and sometimes surging when cruising at low revs. I've done a search and found its probably something in my ignition system or fuel system but I doupt it is fuel, the pump and filter were replaced a month ago. I'm going to replace the leads, rotor button, plugs and dissy cap. Is there anything else I should be looking at? The leads were fine on the old motor but I don't think they are hacking the pace on the new motor, then again they are 10 or 11 years old! Cheers again!

Could also be clogged up injectors on the off chance. I have read a bit about dirty/clogged injectors causing a bit of spluttering on occasions, even mine did it a bit..
My EF had a very very slight splutter sometimes at part throttle which went away when i changed from my normal EF injectors to AU injectors. The EF injectors i had were quite clogged, had a heap of black crap built up around the tips. Dunno if that will be of any help but if all the other things you change don't fix the issue, perhaps get the injectors cleaned and see how that goes |

Got new leads on the old girl, its made a s**t load of difference but hasn't gotten rid of it completly
It still splutters sometimes, I'll change the plugs, dizzy cap, button and set the timing and see how it goes. It's still surging, thats probably the cam, I guess I can live with that Failing that I'll get some reco injectors

Still having a bit of trouble with the idle again, its all over the place I just put in the new J3 and EL ECU. For some reason the indicators cam on for a second after I connected the battery
When I started it up it was idling nice at about 1000RPM, but as soon an I jabbed the throttle it started the hunting again to the point of stalling, so I bumped up the idle and it was back idling at 1000RPM. Took it for a drive, holy f**k its going now! But now its started hanging at 2500RPM again! Gah! I'll have another look at it tommorow. But it needs new injectors me thinks.

why are you using an EL ecu try the original ecu with out a chip, does the motor get smoother as it warms up, do you have a miss while driving or just bad idle, as a mechenic id say if you can not idle below 1000rpm and the motor shakes and spatters on start up getting a little better as it heats up most proberly your head gasket is blown or you have a cracked or warped head, when head or head gasket go it doesn't always give a tell tail signs such as milky oil, buy your self a work shop manual and a compresion tester. Take my word listening to anyone who is not a qulified mechenic will end up costing you alot of money, you will end up changing every sensor and still have the same problem, see it every week at work

Only because they don't have a qualification doesn't mean they are incapable of repairing an issue on a vehicle or give advice to others. There is nothing wrong with replacing parts which may be a suspect, especially parts that haven't been replaced in a while. At least when you replace it, you know you don't have to replace them anytime soon...so it also helps with keeping up with regular service since you now know when it was changed. In my experience, spluttering/missing was caused by the fuel filter, injectors and a semi-failing TFI module. Since you have already replaced your fuel filter, I guess you can look at maybe the ignition side of things. I wouldn't expect your injectors to be blocked...because if the fuel filter was blocked before, you know it was doing it's job. So check the ignition side of things. Check your coil (if you can find a working spare, swap it and test), distributor cap could also be cracked or worn out, remove and check it for wear...make sure when you remove the cap, that the centre contact on the underside of the cap is still there and hasn't fallen off, should have a spring and then a contact rod thingy. If spark plugs haven't been replaced, it might be a good time to have a look at them. This may seem stupid, but make sure your air filter isn't severly blocked...a choking car can cause dramas.

still having this trouble, I think the surging at speed is not enough revvs, 3.45s will fix that.
Still got a small amout of spluttering droping back through gears at low revs and flattening it when cruising at about 40 - 50K it seems to go dead for a second then full power! Gunna try a new MAP sensor soon, any other sugestions?

Well I tried another MAP, same thing!
While I was at it I tried another coil and made sure all the leads were on correctly, same thing! I put in a custom tuned chip for T.I Performance, surging GONE! but this spluttering is still there. Its pissing me off

could check your earth straps for good connection, bellhousing to chassis and engine to battery. I left bellhousing strap off yesterday when I put a new clutch in and car was all over the shop, spluttering, stalling, engine missing when blinkers turned on.
