Hey guys, can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the xr6/normal falcons tailshafts?
I am buying a t5 kit from a ed xr6 which includes tailshaft, but it means ill have to tow the trailer to pick it up..I know i can use my auto tailshaft, so is it worth changing tailshafts?? |

The XR6 shaft might be the Alloy one, and if so is well worth grabbing.
And incidentally, the tailshaft will fit accross the boot, or you could fold a seat down, or wrap it carefully and put it on the back seat. BenJ

Does anyone know what the weight comparison is between Cast iron and alloy shafts. I'm presuming alloy are lighter but by how much?
if there is a large weight difference then I might swap mine, but if not, i dont have much need to go over 180km. |

i couldnt tell you the difference in kg but i would say the alloy one is atleast 1/2 the weight of the steel one..
oh by the way there not cast iron.. (now a cast iron one would weigh 100kgs)lol they are mild steel.. |

a bit of difference but not huge as i said its more a matter of safety
we all pump more and more power into out cars and most of us disregard things like the tailshaft not im not saying they wont take a fair bit of pounding BUT after time they weaken so do the alloy ones that raises another question how many kms has the tailshaft currently on the car done and how many has the alloy one done as i allways say its better to be safe than sorry ive seen them let go and do massive damage to diff gearbox and tunnel if your doing speed with that happens well id hate to think

EA to EBI use a steel tailshaft
EBII to EL run steel EBII XR6/8 to EL XR6/8 run alloy and possibly the fairmont ghias. I think AU are all alloy i may be wrong. but all apart from AU EA/EBI will interchange againest each other.

picked it up today, and it does NOT fit side to side in the boot..only with the seats folded. Oh and it does have less km's and is alloy i believe as it weighs s**t all..I've seen the tailshaft on my ghia has surface rust, whereas this is painted black i think?

Of course, I was thinking of my EB which didn't have all the side panel things. Sorry.
The alloy shafts that I have seen have all been 'alloy' in colour. Good luck with the conversion. BenJ
