Yet another question about the EL. Should be my last real issue, so I'll keep it short. Basically, car runs nicely for a few kms until operating temp, at which point the car will enter limp home mode, and the temp will climb to 'M' as opposed to the 'L' is usually sits at. I'll list what I know below, so there's less to read:

• The car WILL NOT enter limp home mode if I manually shift (i.e. down to 2nd to stop, up to 3rd and then D when over 60-70.) It WILL enter limp home mode if just left in drive. The temperature will still rise.

• The car has no coolant leaks after installing a new radiator, but the thermostat housing/section connected to the engine block has audible hissing and mild coolant bubbles from the worn gasket. Would this be responsible for my temperature slowly rising to 'M' and above?

• The S5 solenoid. How likely is this the culprit regarding the trans locking to 3rd, and what do the other solenoids control? After I had the new radiator fitted, the car felt very underpowered and it wasn't long after I drove it away from the shop that it jumped back into limp home mode. I recently had the transmission flushed and serviced.

Cheers everyone. I apologize for yet another thread, but I just want to narrow everything down before spending money.

Have you run a diagnostic? That should tell you what's going on

Have you noticed if the 'Econ' light on the dash is flashing? That is the trans overheating warning.

No econ light in the dash. I've had people mention head gasket problems, but I'd know if the head was gone (no oil in coolant/no smoke from exhaust, oil is not off colour or milky.)

I'm intrigued by the fact that it doesn't lock when I manually shift. Seems like some sort of electrical issue, but I have no idea what it could be.

EDIT: The car seems to have regained its power though, so that's a non-issue. I also just finished reinstalling a new thermostat and thermo head/housing gaskets. I won't be able to check if this worked until tomorrow when the silicone dries.
