Hey,
Was testing all my sensors today in the never ending hunt for the cure for my fuel consumption issues and all the sensors checked out OK except the MAP reading was about 10Khz too high at idle, with AC on, and revving etc. With engine off and ignition on it was right though. Would this just be from the cam??? Also TPS read fine at closed throttle (I think about 3000ohms), but at WOT it was 600ohms instead of 500. Does this mean it needs adjusting or is it close enough? Anyone muster any other ideas as to why I'm only getting like 420km highway driving, and you don't want to know what I get round town...LOL? Does the power steering pressure switch need to be plugged in, as this is the one thing that is rooted. I leave it unplugged as it causes a bad idle when in. Could that effect fuel economy in any way??? Cheers. |

Oh and I just went and did a diagnostic.
KOEO results in 52 - Power Steering Switch (der!) KOER test results in 12/13 ISC, 42 Oxy Sensor (Running Rich) and 52 Power Steering Switch Again. Anyway, anyone know if the power steering switch could effect economy, and why the oxy sensor is reading rich (its only new too BTW)? Cheers. |

You could try swapping the MAP sensor for a known good one, i.e. off a mates car. See if that makes any difference. (probably not)
Might even be worth your while checking fuel pressure. Could be the pressure regulator sticky, I've seen that. Does the car still have plenty of power, or is it down on power?

well if ur car is storing a fault for o2 sensor and beeing rich then it means that the ecu is trying to lean the mixture out as much as it can but still cant get it to its correct value so it stores the fault. which would make ur car use a lot of fuel
so it could be a faulty sensor though proberly not, sounds like there is air leak in ur intake system, as u were saying it wasnt idling to well either. use some flamble spary like easy start around the places there could be a air leak eg intake manifold gaskets, throttle body, crank case valve ect and if the car idels up when u spray it then u have found ur leak |

Cheers dude I think I will actually try that (replace gaskets).
That would throw thre MAP sensor readings out too if there was a vacuum leak hey? Interesting... Like the car still goes good, just really bad on fuel - spits out black s**t in the mornings and black smoke when you floor it. |

I hear the power steering pressure switch does affect fuel economy.. as much as it bedazzled me.. someone told me (when I was hacing the same issues) to change that, or check it... should change it anyway, if its rooted.

I guess it is an auto yeah?
have u tried resseting the throttle and also the computer? to give u an idea of how much i get is, on the weekend i travelled around 550kms in 2 days and only used 1/3 of a tank
it is a stock engine with K&N filter, 2.5" catback and manual 
oh and btw my oxy sensor and camshaft postion sensors are gone

That works out to be about 4.2 litres per 100 kilometers. Who needs a Toyota Prius with these figures. Either that or your fuel guage is inaccurate.
