I wonder if anyone's tried to get extra performance from the 3.2 (MPFI, etc)?

It'd be interesting to have one of those with all the performance gear that 3.9's normally use, because the shorter stroke might mean it'll rev better.

i doubt anyone would even think about doing up a 3.2. my old man's hilux would probably give one a run for its money :P

The 3.9 could out-perform the old 351V8

and the starfire engines were pretty much the 202 with the 2 cyl's cut off :P they came from vb right through to the vk's

The guy who said the Camira will do 16 second quarters.. it may be capable of doing that, but it'll break down waiting for the lights to go green!

90kw i think, stay away from it i would advise. Getting one of those would be like getting a holden camira.

you don't know much about camira's buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!

A stock 5spd JE Model Camira with the 2l Opal engine, (85kw@5200rpm, 176nm/3200rpm). It will do a quarter mile in a flat 16 sec. I have seen them getting in high 15's with pod and extractors & sports exhaust.

A good 5sp, JE camira with an 85kw opal engine would probably pants most e-series cars on these forums unless they can do the quarter in under 16 sec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 5spd are geared really well and will nearly pull 100km/hr in 2nd, huge torque steer every time you let them rip through the gears.

Power to weight ratio can sometimes make a small car go very quick!!!!!!!!!!

cheers............

What?............

So you like your Camiras then mate?

i know this is an old thread, but your right on the money.

considering all the parts out the now for the I6 and the short stroke long rod of the 3.2 means that at 8250RPM you have piston speeds of 4298 ft/min

with the 4L you get to 6750RPM with piston speeds of 4398 ft/min

keep in mind that you can fit any 4L head to it and that there are some huge cams out there if you know where to look, 6TB manifold and some big custom extractors there is still alot of power to be had from the smaller 3.2 not that it would in any way be a streetable engine

So true. Put a massive cam and head on a 3.2 and it will scream. You will lose torque because of the drop in displacement, but drop a 5 speed and 4.11 diff behind it and take it to 8000rpm+ on shifts and I would be surprised if the old 3.2L couldnt get some results.

3.2 Head was actually different to the 3.9 head... Valve's were a fair bit smaller and I think the combustion chamber would have been as well.
