A little horror story from my mate's workshop on Friday. ED falcon arrives at the workshop, on a towtruck... RAA has diagnosed as a blown head gasket (standard diagnosis for an I6 i suppose)...
So they start rippin' the head off... in the process notice that 5 rockers have smashed into several pieces... further inspection shows that the timing cover has also cracked and the pistons are showing evidence of contact with the valves. Something has cased the timing chain to come off, therefore damaging the timing cover and of course, letting the valves come into contact with the pistons, resulting in destruction of the valvetrain. The cause... an LPG backfire had shattered the plastic PCV valve. The ball bearing inside the valve had found its way between the timing chain and its sprocket... So... rebuild or replace - either way, she's in the shop for a while and it aint gonna be cheap. The worst bit? Metal PCV valves are available for $10.

thats possibly what could have happened to mine.
EXACTLY the same things had happened, but i wasnt sure if the PCV Valve was broken before or after everything went bang. i thought mine coulda been broken by one of the 1 rocker arms that shattered.

Yep, thats why Ford manufacture a METAL PCV valve for LPG users

That is not that uncommon on LPG engines. The simple thing is to replace the (plastic) PCV with a metal one when it is converted to gas like most good LPG installers should do.

Thats what i was thinking.... im not an expert on the I6 but I undestand the PCV is near the front of the engine? Therefore if the PCV happens to spit its quite easy for it to find its way into the timing area?

dANG, mines plastic I think, or at leasst the outside casing is black plastic. they wouldn't be hard to replace would they? i'll do it this weekend.

Just pop it out and put another in. No tools required whatsoever. It is pressed into the rocker cover and has a hose pressed onto it that is connected to the throttle body. I have a metal PCV valve on the taxi and when i went to get a replacement (evey 60,000kms) the salesperson tried to sell me a plastic one.

The top of the New PCV's are still plastic - its the bottom half (which you cant really see except for the small outer ring - pull it out!) its metal

So mine is the right one for an L.P.G. car then: 
- don't worry about the bit of white stuff/build up on it, that's just some autosol Metal Polish I havn't wiped up yet... |

Damn, they make the PCV easy enough to get to on the I6... you guys seen where it is on the 8? I spose that's hat you get for taking an american manifold and turning it 180 degrees...

What does PVC Stand for? Whats it do?
And its about the only easy thing to get to, the dizzy is in the stupidest spot ever.
