down to business...
the family owns 4 fords- one EF (the pioneer ford for us), my old eb, and 2 au's. mums EF has the notorious ticking coming from the head. i have already pulled apaty the head, replaced all of the lifters, and so on... but the ticking has come back in a big way. i have decided it is time to open her up, and probably just put on a 'new' head. the question is: what head do i replace it with (any compatible options? i hear the au head is good...), how much should i expect to pay, and what should i be looking out for? i am really looking forward to some surgery on this one, it should be great fun, and lots of work... also thinking of checking the bottom end, she's at 170,000 km, and she has had quite a hard life (but dearly loved) . . .

I think it means you need to go to a thicker oil.
Clearances have increased in size.

negative to both those...
its coming from #5 or 6 the most, ive tried both thicker and thinner oils, all to no avail... the injectors must be fine, as the ticking went away when i changed the lifters. when i changed them, there were blockages in the oil lines which i cleaned out by blasting the air compressor... i think im best off changing the head.

to add to that, ive tried disconnecting the injectors one by one, the ticking does not diminish at all...
the noise as acutally close to #4, but its something within the head. i dont know whether it could be a sticky valve or what, but the easiest thing would be to replace the head.

The best way to clean your lifters is this way: #1: Drain oil, leave oil filter in place. #2: Add 1/2 new oil 1/2 kerosene. #3: Idle car for 20mins. #4: Drain oil and remove filter. #5: Add new oil and new filter. Done! Its what I did and I've never had a problem since. I don't see how lifter ticking can be cause by a dodgy head. Maybe a valvetrain but not a head.

Could it be a crack in a oil passage etc., There is a guy up here who has the same problem.Repacing ajusters only works for a short while before ticking again.I think he said it was a oil gallery in the block???

yup, have done the kero trick, just with diesel...
i think there is a massive blockage abnd the lifters are getting starved. i really need to pull it all apart to have a look at it. like i said, it did cop a hell of a lot of punishment from my brother... and now we all reap the rewards... anyone know what sort of price i should be looking at for a 2nd hand head in good nick?
