Some proper testing on different filters in the US.

In summary for those that dont bother to read this usefull stuff.

1) You can't have both good filtration and low restriciton. -The K&N passed 18 times more dirt than the best filter

2) Oil based filters while having low restriction initially, clog up at an exponential rate and end up much higher than OE filters after a short time.

3) The difference between the best filter and the worst filter in terms of flow is only 2 Inch H20. or 33% at 350Cfm in any case both filters cause little restriction compared to other items.
Most intakes are around 20-30 inch H20 overall -I have checked this on my car.

Just to add has ne one tried a UNIFILTER, its a foam based filter, apparently its 10cfm less than a K&n filter. :) Prices are more expensive too.

It is amazing how many people believe that better airflow = more power! Unless you have modifications out the wazoo, a more porous filter will just dirty your oil!

Good enough for me!!

So whats the go with the Unifilter, is it just the rampod design youve got? What kind of throttle response did you get after intalling it? Good, bad, same.. :)

Um... well i catn really jusge it against anything else, coz i havnt used anything else on it. The pod went on and idle was wrong, so we just took it off... yeh its about as good as ya mums stockings, we actually have a stocking under the foam for added protection... you can certainly hear it pulling in the air (when i didnt have it in a box).

Haha, glad I never invested in one.
Never really bothered because even taking the air filter out completely and taking to car for a quick blat I couldn't tell the difference.

$100+ for a mod that you can't feel the power difference and is worse for your motor seems hardly worthwhile does it lol.

If you drive on dusty unsealed roads stick with paper filters.

If you drive around the city or on sealed bitumen roads then I can't see the problem in getting a Unifilter, K&N, Redline, BMC, Splitfire panel Filters. It does increase performance and throttle response.

That's my 2 bob anyway.

I'm pretty sure this was posted on another site, or even here.
With the k&n filter in that test they tested a finer dust/sand compared to the paper filter where they used a a*** sand. So really they bodge it up.
Ohh well i'm confused as what to do now, i'm getting the XH snorkel tomorrow, but dunno if i should pick up a K&N aswell???????????
