Will never buy a v6 falcon, let alone any v6. i just f**k hate them.
inline is better. ohh but it has to weigh less and fit in easier ahh what a crock of s**t. I just fukn love the lazy torque of these inline engines, and the get up and go when you press the pedal all the way. Such a good engine what a waste.

All sooo true and all soooo sad....

If i wanted to buy a V6 i would get someting like a nissan 350Z...

At the end of the day Ford will end up just like Holden V6, Toyota V6, Mazda V6 just to mention a few...

And in my eyes they are all sell outs and not being very creative and trying to stand out..

But this is what i think and not how Mr Ford sees it..!!

Well in their defense.. they clung to the i6 far longer than any other car manufacturer.. here or elsewhere...

They claim the change is because the dohc i6 won't match the emissions coming up in the future.. but why didn't they just steal the head design etc etc of the newer yank motors and apply it to the i6....

If they had any sense.. they'd be copying holden and shipping the cars to the US and other foreign markets.. holden are making a mint from it.. was on the news tonight.... ford AU are apparently not smart enough to do this??? (perhaps ford US won't let them..)

@ edfairmont 4.0, You're never late in a Ford V8 :)

@ estgonxr6, Mazda V6 IS the Ford V6

@ frankieh, BMW still make I6's (a twin turbo one at that, that just won this years International Engine of the Year), and Holden *cough* Daewoo have one in the Epica. (plus all the already mentioned I6 truck motors)

the thing is with this whole v6 / i6 issue 99% chance that the ford falcon (or what ever) will become a front wheel drive. like 80% of american family cars and 90% of jap related v6 motors...

no way will they go FWD. there goes the whole market if they do. also all the gains in weight balancing by using the cyclone would be out the window if they went FWD.

Not going to happen. never. may my eyes fall out if it does.

they are doing this. the FG should be lhd convertable with a bit of effort, and the new model coming with the cyclone is definately going to be a lhd compatible design. australia will become the global rwd developement grounds according to an interview with the ford and holden bosses that I read in the paper.

Its mostly to do with the I6 having a cast iron block, not the head.

With the alloy block of the Duratec, its supposed to warm up quicker, therefore putting out less emisions...... or so im led to believe?

Is the design of the I6 such that it wouldn't be strong enough if the block was alloy?

On another note, if they went FWD it'd be the end of holden/ford V8 racing... and the end of ford australia.. they are not that stupid.

perhaps AWD :-)

alloy block would be weaker for sure. wouldnt touch an all alloy motor thats for sure.

Well the Lexus LS series motors are all alloy and have been for many years... considered a strong motor..

it can be done, I guess they just don't want to have to do all the work involved in a material changeover.

are the BMW i6's iron or alloy?

That's a very short sighted (and incorrect) opinion.

Some tough all alloy engines

- Ford GT (all alloy supercharged 5.4L BOSS)
- BMW I6's and V8's (think M3/M5 of last model)
- Toyota V8's
- Nissan GT-R
- Chev LS1/2/3/7/9 etc. (stock blocks taking over 2000hp)
