how do you figure that. by grinding it .120 offset you're adding 0.120 to the throw of the crank. Thats 0.280 to the stroke.

If you offset gring 0.120" you only increase the distance from the main bearing axis to the big end bearing axis by 0.060". This gives you an effective stroke increase of 0.120"

No that would be an offset of 60thou.

any time i've talked about it with a machinist the offset was always the increase in crank throw.

Anybody have any data on the 300ci I6 con rods?

Cheers

This is all I could find in the old cataldogs I have here.
Bore = 4.000"
Stroke = 3.98"
Compression Height = 1.74"
Piston pin diam = 0.975"
Block deck height = 10.000"
Conrod length = 6.209"
Bore centers = 4.480"

Basically, this means the crank wont fit in a 3.9/4.0/4.1 block, as they are only 4.08" bore centres. Couldnt find the rod dimensions, just length and pin diameter.

Shame the bore centres are so far out. If you bore a 300 I6 to 4.050", a 390 ford piston will fit straight in, same comp height, pin size, etc. At .050" over you would have almost 308 cubes. Imagine if you could fit a worked over 4.1 alloy head. Or an OHC head. It would have BULK torque, and make BIG horsepower. With the EFI, etc, it would still be reasonably economical, and pull like a school boy.
Don't know if it would fit in an E-series though, bit tall.
:D

Given that the standard pin diameter is 2.124", to do a 0.120" offset grind in your terms would leave you with a pin diameter of 1.884". Small block Chev small journal rods are 2.00" pin diameter, no longer an option with your set up.

You could use a V8-supercar or Sprintcar spec rod. Alot of them use GM Quad four (1.888") or Honda (1.850") journals.
At the end of the day, a custom rod will probably be required for this sort of combo anyway, so you could pick your own journal size/pin diameter/rod thickness/rod length to suit your combo. A good set of billet rods will cost approx $1500-$2000 for a set. A set of custom pistons will be around $1k as well.
A lot of money for a small gain in capacity....

The SBC rods where never an option in the first place. big end isn't wide enough and pin bore is wrong. although you can get SBC rods with Honda journal sizes, but that still doesn't 'fix' the other issues.

Of all the talk ive heard with these chev rod piston combos, i've never seen one run and as soon as you ask people who 'have' them, they all of sudden didn't even know big end width was wrong.

((( If we could quietly keep a slight tangent in mind )))

96 odd mm pistons to suit standard rods... Or should I just get my old block bored out to 97 mm and see if it goes through into any of the water and oil galleries first?......

<sigh>

copy from xfalcon.

iv just done some homework on the Dave Adams old offset crank that i have and it has 2 inch bigends and would use a 6 inch conrod and the 200 ACL rod combo piston to give 270 cubes with a 30 thou overbore. it is a EF crank which has been offset ground 120 thou giving 240 thou or 6mm extra stroke. thats a 3.71 in bore and a 4.15 in stroke or 94.23mm bore and a 105.41 stroke..
it now appears that mr Adams was using some bigger cube motors to get his 9.63 1/4 mile time in his red TC cortina..i did not think that a x-flow would rev well with a stroke that big but nitrous might have helped..
if you combind this stroke with a bigbore V6 dunnydoor piston combo of 3.80 in or 96.52mm you would get a 282.5cu motor or a 4628cc thumper..cheers

U guys think we could use the 200ci piston in a EF/EL/AU OHC cam engine???

:twisted:

270 or 282ci would be awsome, sure it wouldn't rev much past say 6000, but that's ok, for a street weapon you don't want big rev's.

Cheers

Id be happy with a 270ci but if its going to rev the same as 282ci then id go 282ci as long as its going to be reliable.

With a fully ported head and at least 10:5 comp and a cam that pulls till 5500-6000rpm would be pretty nice to drive on the street, should crack the 400 flywheel hp and nice fat torque curve then add ur nitros setup on top of that :mrgreen:
