yep, just when i thought i was clear
driving to wagga wagga on thursday night, lower heater hose split, dumped all my coolant, low coolant warning failed to go off, no hot water able to circulate back to the temperature sender so the first thing i knew about it was when it was so hot that the oil pressure dropped. I saw this, went to shut it down, but it conked as i grabbed the key. NRMA took it to mechanics who replaced the hose checked the cooling system, took it for a test drive, all was fine when i got it back yesterday so i drove it back to my motel. Today checked levels, all fine, cranked it, ran like a***, two big puffs of black smoke as i took off back to mechanic, temperature gauge steadily rose to the O in NORMAL where i shut her down, and called the tow truck to take her the rest of the way. Doubtless its the gasket, hopefully not a cracked head, will fix it and sell it. The last hurrah of a lemon. Now i'll have to drive a holden for the next two years.

Who ever designed the ford heater pipes at the back of all e-series cars should be shot. I mean what a d***head!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many E-series car's have blown head gaskets, warped heads due to the these heater pipe design. I had a heater pipe go on my old EB, lost all my coolant etc, but lucky my coolant switch worked, but it left me stranded. |

Sorry to hear man. I reckon keep it, bugger driving a holden for the next 2 years. Just think every dollar you spend on it now is hopefully one dollar you won't have to fix up in the future. After a while you end up replacing so much stuff not much can go wrong! I know from owning an xf ghia. Biggest piece of s**t i've ever owned in my life. Paid $2k for the car, and i must have spent a good $3000 on parts fixing the s**t up.

dude, a mechanic serviced it 2000 k's before hand, it had brand spanking new coolant in it and had been out on the road for only a week. I was previuosly of the opinion that what ever i fix now i won't have to fix it later, but i just fixed the head the other month. Before i had the XR i had a N13 pulsar, dad gave it to me for free, a month later spent 2,200 on head gasket and new clutch, 6 months later it dumps all it oil and throws a bearing. it now lives in a wreckers. cars just don't like me

you may have taken it to the mechanics but this is a 10 year old car, so you can't do one thing and leave it like that, eg when my radiator was due for a clean i dumped in a new one with new thermostat all new hoses, top, bottom and heater.
this is what you have to do with old cars, replace everything in the system not just one part at a time.

If one of your shockies blows out its dumb not doing them all at the same time because the other ones won't be far off going either. Sure it costs a lot of money to do maintenance this way but it saves the heartache of doing it later.

I dunno if that's what ticky6 meant... after a good 10 or 11 years in service, most coolant hoses are ticking time bombs and should be replaced sooner rather than a cracked head later.... I have a hose let go every now and then... but i always check to see if coolant sensor is working (one of most important sensors on a falcon IMO!!)... cast iron V8 a little more forgiving as well... But that's all with the benefit of hindsight... tough break man, hope the damage isnt too severe.

exactally right even if your hoses look ok still replace them after 2 years. i've never had a blowen hose in mine but the car never goes to a mechanic either.
