Next Saturday I am swapping the Nc Lane for a 1995 Xg longreach ute, 6 and an auto...... Going to meet the bloke a Newcastle as he is coming from bellana. If its all good and no rust ( there is some in the drivers doo I have been told) I will be doing a straight swap. The Rego might be a killer as its rego goes till October this year but the bloke is a pensioner so transfer could be pricey ( does anyone know how to work out roughly the costs). Its got 195,000 Hwy k's on it ( so will be checking the head) and had a bit of work done to it mechanically but its a bit rough on the body, a few dings and scratches here and there and a punch in the rear r/h tail light corner that should beat out easy. The plan is seeing I have the work van to use her on the odd weekend and slowly do her up. I am thinking of turning the inside into a Nc/Dc lane interior and maybe calling it a Fair-lute. Maybe........ Will see if this bloke is full of s**t or if its really worth the swap. Will keep you all posted if I get it. Any tips on the Xg's common faults to look out for? I will be checking over it as good as I can for rust as its a coastal car, but if there are common faults I will make sure to check em out.

Have you driven an XG before?
XF steering components with a long wheel base isnt very nice. It struggled to do U turns on 4 lane roads. lol Mine had rust under the small side windows under the plastics, around the arches near the sills, the door hinges are a big problem. There was also rust under the tray near the fuel tank and behind the headlights. If the hinges rust out the doors droop. Door handles and locking mechanisms fail and are hard to replace. I think XF doors are different as are XH ones so replacements are hard to find. The rad isnt a straight swap with an E series one. I tried to fit E series thermos because the clutch fan was annoying. The switches in mine were dodgy. The headlight switches sometimes worked, the indicator stalk was a bit suss too. My speedo was broken but I just fitted an EB cluster. The taillight connectors were dodgy too and needed some fiddling with so the globes would turn on. When I sold it the front end bushes needed to be replaced. On braking the mechanic said the wheels were pushing forward because some bushes were gone. I bought it cheap to see if I could live with a ute and decided I could, just not an XG so I got the AU. |

Take a look at the RTA site http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/regotransfer/buyingavehicle.html that will have the info you need and links are provided for rego costs as well as to work out stamp duty for the ute
