Hey.
If the starter motor is munted, the engine wont crank. If the coil is fried but the starter is ok, it will turn over - but you wont be getting a spark, so the engine wont actually start up - it'll just crank and crank and crank and crank....

Well no, as if the starter motor is buggered and not turning the engine over then you won't get anything. The coil won't start sending out sparks until the engines turning over I believe. Your fuel pump might still prime maybe? |

Yep. Would pretty much be a non-event when you turned the key.

well if the coils fried = no spark
if the starters stuffed = no turn BUT you might get clicks from the solniod!

au series 1 engine was put in, followed by the el 4 speed gearbox (it had a three speed in it), then i connected the remote control wire for the head unit running to the amp (which hasnt been hooked up yet) then the alternator after it was the internals were replaced.

hmm, thats abnormal. Well for the time being while finding out the problem, don't let your amp or H/U power up (although it probably won't if the fuse is blown) Now when you turn your key to on, listen for the sound of the fuel pump coming from the rear of the vehicle (should operate for a few seconds). Also, check the relays in your engine bay such as the ignition relay. Sounds like an electrical problem rather than a burnt out coil. Listen for clicking relay's in the engine when you turn the key over. Do this and post your findings.

Also the fuel pump relay could be cactus, if you do as above and it still dies, undo the fuel pump plug and try again, (if you have a kill switch on the fuel pump wiring, make sure its rated above 10A and isn't shorting!)
and finnaly disconnect the alternator if this fails too!
