Im converting my ED to thermo fans (gearing up for something in a couple of weeks) and i need to know some info about the temp sensor eg, what voltages to expect from it at different temps (and what temps id want to switch the fans on at and what temp to switch em off again) - im using the jaycar universal voltage switch kit.

My advice. Get EF thermofans and then figure out how to wire em up.. figure out howto wire them up with a few speeds then tell me how to wire em up with say 2 inputs or something hehe

ive already ordered EF thermo fans, but i can only set them up so that they have two speeds ON and OFF, i will probably use a toggle switch to set the fan speed on them.

Looks like im getting the multimeter out tonight

from memory they draw a s**t load of power. With my switch kit it blew the p***y fuse on start up. had to put a larger fuse in

if you want 2 speeds, it would probably be easier to use 1 fan for 1 speed and have the second one cut in when it gets real hot.
this will also reduce noise a bit.
you're probably better off getting 2 of those switches if you do want to go down this path.
one other thing to look out for is the alternator. it will have around 30 amps extra load on it when the thermos are on.

hope this helps.

i've just use a thermostat and put the sensor onto the outside of the top radiator hose and covered it in foam (to stop wind) then adjusted it to turn on when the temp gauge on the dash says about 3/4. cheap ($40 for thermostat) and effective. My EB's alternator can handle both fans starting and running at the same time and they aren't by any means noisy - you can hear they are on but only just when you're in the car (thats why i hooked up a light to tell me when they are on).

this is an excellent mod - you won't regret it.

Dont waste your time and money. They are a clutch fan and free spin. More reliable than the thermos.

I did this silly conversion years ago on a VS commodore 5.0. Put a bloody massive thermo on it but the stock fan did a heaps better job cooling, the car just kept heating up in traffic with a thermo. Maybe you will get 1hp more with the conversion., its it worth 1 day of your life? Go take the wife to the park for a picnic.

yeh clutch fans are great. especially when theyre worn out and dont slip like theyre supposed to. its an awesome sound :P

the ef/l style fans do draw alot of power, id suggest individual realys for each fan, as they use 30odd amps each at full speed.
