Ok this makes sense. One more thing. the third relay (the relay that is going to aircon wire) pin 87 on this relay, does this also connect to one of fans? (so same as pin 87 on the 2nd relay?)
Cheers

spot on there buddy.
from factory they run this setup. the aircon will use the passenger side fan when aircon is on, and uses the drivers side for low speed, and kicks in the passenger side when the first isnt enough. |

FINALLY it worked!!! it neded up being a dudd thermo switch, i went back to where i got it from and purchased another switch, this thing was driving me nuts as i did have the wiring right to begin with, anyway as soon as i chaned the switch they worked. the faulty switch is going back to davies craig for 'analysis' and if after they test it they fin out it is a manufacturing problem then they will refund me my money, can take up to 3 weeks. not happy about that but im so glad its working now.
What happens now is both fans come on according to the temperature i have set it to (the 'o', when the temepratrue drops back to the 'n' they turn off. When i turn the a/c on the 2nd thermo comes on regardless of temperature. im happy with this, i thought that only 1 came on at a time for the temperature but obviously not. thanks for your help huggibear, this thing was driving me nuts as i really did think i had the wiring right and thought that a dudd thermo switch would be the last thing that could go wrong, obviously not... anyway its all good now, made a bracket off the rear nut for the head light and the relays fit nice and snug there.

good stuff. may i ask how much you payed for the switch? i just finished my wiring for my thermos.. had an old alarm system bits that had in-line fuses so they slide onto the side of factory relay mounts. so i chopped up an old loom for the relay box's, and ill hid the relays under the headlights behind the front bar... i also have a spare factory relay cover ill throw over it all...
i know you can view the pic but ill throw it up for others to see |

Those piks loaded. Nice set up will look stock. I still need to get some sort of fuse cover from the wreckers as now I just zip tied a piece of plastic over the top.
First relay switch I paid $79 for. The second he gave me a discount and I paid $56. So when I get a refund it will $79. So overpriced considering the quality and the dodgy instructions. I wouldn't call this much of a kit considering I had to buy the relays, connectors and wiring. Anyway it's done now. I'll load some picks when I get the cover on.

I'm going to an EL ECU in my ED chipped of course for log manifold...
This will give me two speed fans plus AC control... So All I need as huggie said, the two ECU wires, which the EEC grounds out... And I pick the EL loom apart, With that I ground the black wire in the loom, power the yellow wire, one ECU triggers runs to the small red wire and the other to the blue wire... All stock parts and will look very neat... I'm not fond of poking things in radiator hoses, like your trouble I recon they'd leak plus you have a damn capillary wire running around... Or I could've went and bought a Tridon 2 stage temp switch, but would've need 4 relays for hi low and AC control... With the EL EEC and the the EL fans is three relays, one four pin for low speed, one 5 pin and one 4 pin for high speed... Had a couple of problems with EL thermo fans on here lately... I might knock up a schematic and paste it here somewhere for people with troubles... Glad your problem is sorted...

Ok...
Knocked this up this morning... This how EL thermos work (I didn't put in the AC sense into the EEC-V but you get the idea)... Hopefully this helps a few people... Attachment: You can see with only relay 1 (low trigger) in that two thermos are in series effectively giving each 6 volts and making them spin slow... When on high and Relay 2 and 3 are also closed you get 12Volts across each fan motor (in parallel)... Much simpler than EF fans, albeit only having two speeds... However three relays and single taped fan motors, this EL system is much easier to follow and understand... Hope this helps a few... Cheers, Tim
