Hi guys, i have a 88 EA falcon and im going to put a EF radiator in, whats needed to convert it there? also im putting thermo fans in. i just bought a thermo switch from repco, and what relays or how many do i need?

You don't need to do the serpentine belt conversion to put the thermo fans in.
You need Ford EF-El thermo fan assembly, Davis Craig thermatic fan switch http://www.daviescraig.com.au/Controlle ... ntent.aspx and two relays, one for each fan.

mine has been wired with 3 relays. so when the A/C clutch is activated 1 fan comes on for condensor airflow.

but the condenser will still get hot when you have it on just to defrost windows on icy nights

My ED radiator supports EL thermos because it has the later tanks on it as most after market ones do nowadays... Mine are brought on by the EL computer... 3 relays ... low and high speed... computer brings them on with the AC depending on engine rpm and road speed... Works like clockwork and looks a thousand times neater than the primitive mechanical davies craig capillary line... If you're not going with a EL computer I'd recommend a tridon thermofan switch... http://www.tridon.com.au/Products/Produ ... 483&P=2014 You can get them in dual temperature for low and high speeds... It would take 4 relays and a diode for low and high speeds with the AC bringing them on... Three relays for single speed with the AC bringing it on... Not sure if an EA has a spare bung in the thermostat housing for a temp switch now though? :/ They have that stupid vacuum valve there? Cheers, Tim

Hello, I did a controller for a bunch of people a while ago.
Also stuck one into the wife's ED XR6. It connects to the temp gauge sensor and has dual power feeds from the battery (like the EF/EL setup). Control strategy is the same as the EL:- - both fans half speed when "Temp1" is reached - both fans full speed when "Temp2" is reached - both fans half speed when A/C is on (goes to full speed if "Temp2" is reached). Only designed to work with the EL fans. Fan control cable plugs straight into the fan connector (correct connector type). The unit is the small grey box behind the LH headlight. Could be made to work with EF fans...
Just leave out the low speed wire on Fan 1 And only Use the high speed winding on it and Fan 2...

Only did it for the EL fans....the unit will not plug into EF fans.
The unit has one 4 pin connector to suit EL fans only. The EF fans have one 2 pin and one 3 pin connector. It was very hard getting those connectors as the supplier had a minimum order quantity of five hundred units. I did manage to sweet talk the supplier into supplying me a small quantity, but they would only do that for one type.....so I decided on the EL 4pin connector. BTW, I did find it gratifying that the skills honed in my youth (sweet talking young ladies) were not totally lost after decades of lack of use It would be easy to make a EF fans to EL control adapter cable, but, I cannot get the connectors. |
