Hello to everybody on the forum:)
please excuse any errors (first time posting) I am interested in doing a serpentine belt conversion on my I6 EB... (yes I have been using search:P) I have asked a few ford shops and I keep recieving mixed information. What exactly do I need for this conversion. EL Powersteering pump? XH Tensioner? EF-EL-AU Timing Cover? Standard EB Aircon Pump with EL Pulley (definately not sure on this one)? EL Altenator? Am I able to use the EL thermostat housing with temp sender and use relays to switch, rather than the using the adjustable unit that places a rod into the top hose. Thankyou for any help.

you will need the ..
ef alternator ef power steer pump ef water pump.. ef harmonic balancer if your using the eb manifold you will need a xh tensioner. ef/el aircon pump complete.. you will also need to use the eb aircon bracket.. you can use the eb/ed timing cover but the timing mark will be in a different spot.. as for the thermo fans its the el ecu that controles the fans.. so unless you want to use the el ecu your best off using a aftermarket thermal switch |

Hi
In addition to Troymans list, you need to retain the EB Lower Thermostat housing as it has sensors for other components used in the EB, such as the cluster temp guage, and the Climate Control if fitted. Others have used an electronic temp switch, however I prefer to use a Davies Craig Thermal switch for its greater adjustability. Cheers BenJ

Thanks very much for the replys. All sounds quite expensive but I am more than happy to remove that horrible fan noise:)

if just want thermo fans you can remove the fan from the water pump and fitt the thermo fans..
you dont need to do the whole serpentine conversion..... |

Lol... and remove the nice squeeling noise from my altenator and aircon belts that continually come out of adjustment..

ok fair enough..
ive done the thermo fan/serpentine conversion and it much better than the 3 belt set up.. i thought you were doing it just because you wanted the thermos.. but its much better to do the whole lot..

i bought a set of ef thermos on ebay complete with a wiring/relay kit for my ed that works really well, its on low speed all the time when the ignition is on and clicks to high speed when the coolant reaches a certain temp, the temp switch screws into a blank spot in the standard thermostat.
i have standard belt setup which never squeels, but it makes the thermos a very tight fit and its a pain when u have to pull them out to do anything. |

i previously utilised a single fan running only one thermo switch which is all it needs, hence why the bf went back to a single.
no thermos that i know of have a 100% duty cycle

On standard EL/EF is one fan running all the time, even cold?
Is there a way the second fan can activate when aircon is switched on?  I should have named this thread Thermofan/Serpentine Conversion.

NO, the fans are usually both off. One fan will switch on with the A/C, and then both fans come on when hot.

Okay, I have sourced most parts for the serpentine and thermofan conversion and it certainly isn't cheap!
how much should I be paying???

i paid 100 bucks for an ef and doin the serp conversion, amongst other things, good to know my budget for 2nd hand parts is capped at 100 hehe
would deffinately buy a new water pump though, for $50 it's good insurance on your motor. wreckers are theives, their always open to haggling (read way overpriced) so haggle the christ out of them ! i bought an lsd for 250 and then they had the cheek to charge me $5 for a speedo gear later on.

low_ryda I am not to sure what you mean by $100 for an ef.. are you meaning the whole car or just for the serpentine conversion..
I was actually considering buying an EF/EL at Auction, installing the EF/EL serpentine belt, thermos and broadband manifold onto the EB and putting 3 belt, clutch fan and EB manifold on the EF/EL and then selling it.
