When I did my thermostat I drained the whole cooling system by removing the radiator drain plug, with a big 15 litre bucket underneath to catch the coolant.

I swapped the std 195F thermostat for a 180F (82C) thermostat, and would recommend it to anyone that drives their car hard.

Now that i have an intercooler AND a transmission cooler infront of the radiator, i was thinking of changing to a cooler thermostat, something like a highflow Tridon TT2000-180deg or possibly 170deg. How low a temperature can you go before it start's being a bad thing?

On EB to EL, just put a 12mm clear plastic hose into the expansion tank, shove in about 12" or so, and syphon out the coolant. This will lower it enough to not make a mess.
Have been doing this for years.

hi
does cutting a extra hole in the original ed shrouds and putting a small thermo fan along side the original fan clutch and using it as a aircon only fan help keep the eds running cooler with the original 91 deg thermostat if you just wire it up so it cuts in and out as the aircon cuts in and out and keep the original engine fan for the main cooling whats the maximum size fan you can put alongside the original engine driven fans and does using it as a aircon only fan help keep them running cooler in summer with the aircon on idling if you keep the original engine driven fans too for the main cooling and use that and the assistant aircon only fan as well. just wondering |

if you want to keep the fan clutch will putting a small 7-9 inch small thermo fan beside the original fan clutch on the original shroud make any diffrence in summer with the aircon on idling heard of a small aircon thermo fan in the vn/vp v8 with the fan clutch to keep it cooler with the aircon on
