yeh they are model specific, just tell em what make model and year the car is and ask for the right thermostat. id give yo the part n. but i can remember it. maybe have a look in the part no. section

Go genuine, they are a better more reliable thermostat.

i got a question about thermostat's...
just went for a drive in dads car, about 15-20 mins, the temp guage was going from the R to the M i think... now thats abit too hot isnt it? i think thats around the 95-100 degree range? now the temp does go up and down, this could be the thermostat opening? either way, apparantly the thermostat was checked awhile back and they said it was fine.. could it just be a high rated one? opening at like 98degrees or soemthing?

On a cold start you can usually see the thermostat opening and closing, as the engine & radiator temp stabilises the temp gauge should also.

On EF & EL's the Temp guage on the dash should generally only sit between the A and M. Whether it is a cold day or Hot one

I'd get a slighty cooler thermosate for a ef/el ... all 90% of the ef/el's that come though here seem to always sit a bit high on the temp gauge ..

This place has got some good thermostats. They allow the engine to get out of the rich cold start loop but not as hot as a stock Ford thermostat. Better engine performance slightly. |

so a thermostat that opens at about 92 degrees would be the best?
what was the stock ford thermostat in an EF2 fairmont opening at? i was just taking a stab at 98 degrees where it opens because the guage was hitting R and then dropping to M, and when i have taken it for a run round the street the diagnostic mode on the dash tells me the temp fluxuates between probably 92ish and about 100 degrees

Yeah if it is hitting "R" with a 92 degree Thermostat and staying their for any length of time then you might haveCooling System Issues and you might need to get it checked out by a Rad specialist.

im nto sure of the thermostat in there, im guessing its the one that came with the car, hasnt been replaced to my knowledge. the rad should be fine, it would only be a year or 2 old tops, was a brand spankers.
is there anyway to tell by looking at it what it opens at? it will hit R but i dont think it goes below M, when cruising on the freeway it might hit A, havnt driven it on the freeway in a while
