well, gonna get a cooler thermostat for summer, i have previously had a 77 deg one, but thinking of moving up to an 83 deg one to keep the temps up a little more.
however, when i got my 77 deg one from coventry's they said it was for the falcon. however, looking at it now, it doesnt look like a factory one. attached is a pic of how it looks. now the factory ones dont have this bottom part. now this covers up the hole in the bottom of the thermostat housing (heater pipe iirc?) now, wouldnt this be a bad thing? or is it ok?

Run a std temp thermostat, if the car gets hot then you obviously have problems elsewhere.
Get a thermostat without the bottom section on it, it cuts the flow to the heater pipes... Most guys chop it off. |

im running the start temp one atm, its just on the hot days 30+ degs in traffic the temp has creeped to the O/R region of the guage. its a little to high for my liking.
the radiator is only 6 months old.

well unless you can run the air con pipes through the radiator there aint much you can do on 30 degree days sitting in traffic,,most if not all cars will get warmer then normal,,,it's the way they are..

the bottom part stops coolant flow to heater when cold, engine warms up faster.
the petrol ones are like this and the lpg cars don't have it so coolant is flowing to converter on start up. hows your thermos working, kicking in alright, i do 600+ k's a week highway and alot of city driving never had temp issues does not go over A on gauge, and i'm not easy on it either. big fan of ford thermostats as they stay open incase of failure and don't fry engine, saved us two engines so far.

yehm using redline frank
when i had the 77 deg one in it would sit on the L, and maybe move up to the top of the A in traffic. i thought the bottom part was to block off the heater to let it warm up faster. but what happens when its warm? itd still be blocked off.

its comes up and lets coolant flow to heater, afaik its temperature is set lower than the 90ish deg temp of the actual thermostat so once car is warm it opens and then does not close again until car is almost completely cold.
