Mate id just change you're oil to nulon high kilometer oil and a new filter.
You're trouble is probably because you havnt changed the filter in a year... 10w40 is what you use in newer engines. As they age you change the oil to suit. 15w40 or heavier for a engine with that many ks. |

Id=6008869 Those were the ones I could find, The only one that says semi synthetic appears to be the HPR 5 and 10 from penrite, however they don't have a 10w40, also I could be completely missing important information about the others. Should I try the HPR 5? Man that was confusing editing and posting, you moved and edited stuff while I was trying to post, copy and quote you..... Valvoline engine armor is an entry level semi syn, it used to be called XLD and is pretty good oil. I've posted about personal experience with that oil before. Valvoline Syngaurd is a the step up range and is again very good oil. Castrol Magnatech 10w40 is their semi syn, I have personally never done much research on that particular oil. I've had my say on penrite a number of times, they use VIIs in all but their top of the line full sun oils. (refer my above post) http://www.fuchs.com.au/categories.asp?cID=9 (titan super GTO 10w40) http://www.motul.com.au/product_line_up ... oke20.html (4100 turbolight) Just to prove a point. I have an AU2 falcon, at 135 000km I put Fuchs GT1 0W20 oil in it. (remember for recomend 10W30) ran it for 10 000km and then took an oil sample and had an independent analysis done. The results showed minimal wear particals and that the oil was still in grade. I also didn't need to top up the oil during that period (the car runs LPG so fuel dilution can't be blamed for artificially keeping the oil level up) This shows how much I believe in what i'm saying. I bought a genuine oil filter (motorcraft AFL1) then put $120 worth of engine oil in my engine and THEN spent $40 on oil analysis. The oil cost me more then that as it only comes in 4L bottles so I had to buy 2 of them. It's a shade over $180 retail for those 8L. The results are that good, I bought the same oil again and have done a service. This time i'm going to take a sample at 10 000 (to prove it's not a fluke) and then again every 5000km until the results show the oil is spent. Now a lot of people will try and tell you that in the real word engines wear and at 100 000km you should start using thicker oil and that at over 300 000km Xw40 oils are to thin. All I can say is it's a shame their isn't a 'flipping the bird' smiley. Sorry to get off topic there Mosqeeto, |

It's just the 10w40 is a little thinner when cold. |

Just don't expect instant results, You may have to use the oil for 2 services (at 5000km intervals) to get to the end result. The additives in each oil 'may' not be %100 compatible. |

yea i wont expect instant results as it doesnt really burn through oil that much, maybe i should replace the oil completely and change the filter to get quicker results?

Your not supposed to top the car up with a different oil to whats in the engine already, and a filter isnt very expensive so do the filter and oil at the same time, no point putting clean oil through a dirty filter

Can't believe you've ran it for 12 months without changing the $10 filter.
And you changed the oil in this time aswell.. Boggles the mind. Just remember because someones spun out a well reading story dosnt always mean they are right. Just change your filter and oil every 5000ks. Takes 20minutes max. |

I've never changed my oil or filters myself, is it easy on an ED?
