hey just wondering can the TPS switch cause poor throttle performance as in like when I apply the throttle to pick up speed half of the time the car would drop in revs or do nothing then a few seconds later it would then decide to burst out the revs to pick up speed. would a faulty TPS switch be the cause for this and has anyone experience this or had a faulty TPS switch?

Have you done your basics yet ????.....checking spark plugs, leads, dizzy cap & rotor condition, coil, voltages, vacuum leaks, compression test, fuel filter, fuel flow & pressures ?????

haven't done compression test cause the engine has only done 80,000 since rebuild. it has new plugs complete dizzy with new coil haven't done leads yet cause I don't think it would be those cause then it would miss firing. what sort of voltages am I looking at?

Voltages at the TPS, dizzy, coil, alternator, proper earths/earthing, CTS, O2 sensor, things like that.

Sounds like it may be leaning out on tip-in. I believe the rate of change in TPS voltage is used by the ECU to calculate acceleration enrichment. Without this signal, it would go lean every time you opened up the throttle, so yes this could be the culprit. It's easy to test with a voltage meter. With the ignition on, but engine NOT started, check voltage by back-probing the middle wire of the TPS connector (pos). From throttle closed to throttle open, voltage should swing from less than 1 volt to over 4 volts.
It's possibly bogging because it's going super rich, but you would get a puff of black smoke if that was happening. If you're not getting black smoke, I could also be a blocked fuel filter or dirty injectors. Unlikely to be fuel pressure regulator, as it would tend to run like a dog all the time (if at all). And unlikely to be fuel pump, as they normally work fine or not at all - nothing in between.

now that sounds very helpful thanks man. oh btw does anyone have any recommendations of what brands spark plug leads I should get for an EL XR6? NGK or something?

I have used either Bosch Motorsport (the pretty blue ones) or Champion Steel Spiral Core (black) for years. They are both 8mm, are quality items and really last - minimum three years on a set. They would be fine for anything short of a fire-breathing dedicated race engine.

did a voltage check on the TPS switch and at closed it show .6Volts and open it only showed 3Volts is this right or should I be looking at getting a new one?

Do not change it. Take it out and test it with a multimeter. The auto electrician told me he has never changed one. I had the same problem as you describe. It was a broken wire from the computer connector feeding ground signal to at least three sensors. One of them TPS. Had injectors cleaned and fuel filter. Goes like a beauty now.

TPS switch did have power to it now it has nothing what would be the cause of this?

it just started showing readings when I was trying to see if it was working or not but the car the still feels like it down on power or something after changing the injectors to AU ones do I need to redo the timing or something? it does idle a lot better than what it did when the EL injectors were in there. does the map sensor play apart in the engine performance?
