I just bought me a tickford head off ebay for $395. :>
It came with rocker arms and cam, was taken from an eb2 xr6. Ill be using the valve springs on it, what i want to know is will that give me more options when it comes to cams, can i run a bigger cam with the tickford springs or are they not that good still? Also, the cam, while i dont intend on using it, an Xr6 cam is no better than a stocker is it? Whats the compression on a stock ed, and an xr6? Thats about it, cheers.

you should be able to get a bigger cam on it with the tickford springs, but im not 100% sure. and the XR6 cam is only slightly better than the stock one so i would suggest upgrading it. i dont know about the compression on ed's as i have and ef

I have a wade 1636 so im not worried at all by the xr6 one, it can go rust somewhere like my old stock one.
I was just wondering if i could get a cam in there big enough to warrant bigger springs on a normal engine. In other words, do i have to put bigger springs in to put a bigger cam than the 1636 or are the ticky ones good enough to not need them.

I once had an ED XR6 cam and i measured it against a stock EL cam, had same lift, but on the XR6 cam, the prefix for the part number was ground off, and the same number was on the EL cam.
The XR6 cams run a retarded timing, hence the 3.45:1 diff gears, lets the revs up to use the cam. That ED XR6 (auto) belonged to my brother inlaw, but my old 88EA (5sp) used to leave it behind, so he sold that and got a Clubsport (Kw unknown). To me that cam just had the dowel/pin hole put in a different spot to retard the timing using std sprockets.

I have the specs around here somewhere but cant find them atm. The lift is the same but there are more differences between the std and xr6 cam than just the cam angle. From memory it has a little more duration on the exhaust side and the LSA is a bit tighter.
I definitely wouldn't leave it out to rust though, its surprising how much they sell for.

I might have been a bit overboard saying ill leave it to rust, chances are ill use it as a swapover and get a bigger cam or something like that.
Extractors or HU are next on list, Hu is f**k so prolly that, but Extractors will get best out of cam and head so dunno.
