Which car is quicker..... 0-100 and 1/4 mile?
EL Fairmont Ghia, tickford 162kw motor with XR 3.45 diff gears or EL Fairmont Ghia, 5.0 V8 165kw

Tickford i6 is 164kw isn't it.
I've seen fast ones and slow ones so it is too hard to say which is quicker. They are about the same. In absolute stock form they all run about 16 - 16.2 for the quarter mile and something like 8 - 9 seconds 0 - 100km/hr |

I think the I6 is quicker, and it has alot more "cheap" performance potential.
But noting really beats having a V8. P.S. The V8 EL Ghia's also have 3.45LSD's. So really the only thing between the 6 and 8 (if they are optioned the same) is the 40kg extra the V8 engine weighs. |

162kw in the Ghia in standard form because of a different exhaust than what the XR6 gets. |

Ghia copped a quieter exhaust (not that I could see what would have been wrong with the XR6 exhaust. That wasn't exactly loud). When you're talkin' Fairmont Ghia, does it really matter which one is quicker? If it were me, I'd take the V8 in a Fairmont, no questions asked. Having said that, I have a Wheels mag at home where an auto I6 GLi shat all over an auto 5.0 Ghia with 3.23 diff gears (the GLi had 3.08) not only from a standing start, but killed it for in gear acceleration. |

The windsor in stock form has a really restrictive head, intake and exhaust system that robs it of its potential doesn't it? That's why big power increases are easy(but still fairly pricey)

I believe the XR6 got a 2.5" press bent exhasust instead of the normal 2.25", and that was the difference. {USERNAME} wrote: Having said that, I have a Wheels mag at home where an auto I6 GLi shat all over an auto 5.0 Ghia with 3.23 diff gears (the GLi had 3.08) not only from a standing start, but killed it for in gear acceleration
Considering the weight differences and that the 5.0 of the time is a status symbol and not a performance motor, that wouldn't be too hard to believe. But every V8 ghia I've had the opportunity to get under has that pretty yellow sticker on the diff housing stating 3.45 LSD. And the owneres manual states the same. I'm guessing that Wheels simply got it wrong. |

The way the engines make thier power will have an effect on straight line performance.
The six is lazy off idle in standard form and makes good power all the way to red line, where as the 8 has bags of torque off idle but runs out of breath in the upper rev range. Whether or not either car is quicker to 100, the eight will feel faster, just because of the way it makes its power. My money is on the eight tho. Also the I6 poinds horribly in the upper rev ranges, sounding like it is actually trying to throw a leg out of bed. IMO. The only reason to buy a six over the eight is if you are concerned about purchase price, or running costs, because if you can afford it, the 8 is by far the nicer option.

A bit of a mixed bag our responses..???
So can we say one way or the other?? No doubt the V8 is the nicer powerplant but which is quicker? no mods. Maybe the i6 from the ghia would leave the V8 flapping out in the wind.

Comparing the 6's ive been in to the 8's - the 6's have been a little quicker, the 8's feel much nicer and sound better.
The 6's are cheap to modify and easy to work on. The 8's are more expensive to modify and not as easy to work on. The 8's are also suffocated in standard form and need a lot of bits replaced to make big power, but they will make more power than 6's with the right work done. So 6's are quick, cheap and easy to mod. 8's are more expensive, but more rewarding in the end.

I dragged a stock EFII Ghia a few times when my car was stock, I usually had the nose in unless I got a bad launch. Theres bugger-all in it, it comes down to drivers and car condition.
However with basic mods the I6 will have more power and be faster. |
