hey all
just thought i'd post this up, as it may help a few people - i've got a stage 2 crow cam, and have had real issues getting the car to idle. i've had to double-foot it at the lights, and its just a pain in the a*** but - the problem has been solved! i've got a tickford ECU in the car, and now it idles! holds at 700rpm in D - sits at the lights, without hunting or stalling - something i've been wanting it to do for ages! but yeah - just thought i'd let everyone know, as it may help some people with similar problems also, car feels a lot more responsive & revs out easier

Yep my car idles quite smoothly now that I have a tickford ECU in there, sounds different too.

I can't say I noticed much change with mine when I fitted the EF XR6 one in. But I have been running on L.P.G. last time I ran a tank of petrol was the first 200km's or so that I ran the cam in.
When I do start it on petrol it's as smooth as can be, probably because of the ECU, or it could be all the km's I've done since installing it. But so long as it's running smooth I'm happy! |

Don't we all know someone who's able to dump ecu's onto a piggy-back setup?

Set your base idle a bit higher then or reset your idle with the computer so it'll hold to what you want
But if its 700rpm now and u want it higher just undo the base idle screw a bit on the t/b! |

this is pretty much the closest thread i can find to the problem i have. so hopefully you guys can help me out.
since i bought my ED, it's often had problems with idling, and will basically drop idles and conk out from time to time. mainly when it's cold. i used to just have to warm it up for a minute or so and it was fine. but recently i changed over the battery and now it does it all the time: when i switch from reverse to drive, when i stop at lights... I'm getting sick of double footing all the time... my uncle said i need to reset my idles, but he doesn't know how to do this on the ED. is this the problem? and if so, how do i do this? |

Devonmx,
Was the car without power for a period of time? i.e. an hour or so? Well ugly's problem was regarding the aggressive cam he had in his car... but you're on the right track. With an EEC controlled engine, you need to allow the computer to do a little 'learning' if it was been without power. I recommend you: - disconnect the battery overnight. - hook it back up in the morning and follow this procedure to help it learn its idle sttings Start the engine and let it idle for 2 minutes in P turn the air con on and let it idle for another 2 mins turn air con off and put car in drive.. let idle for 2 mins turn air con on whilst still in drive and let idle for 2 mins Work the steering wheel back and forth a few times during this process... the computer will learn how to idle with the varying loads on the engine (i.e. gear, air con, power steering pump) Not guaranteed to solve your problem but this should be done everytime the battery is disconnected...

Had my crow cam (stage 2) put in 2 years ago (EL) and have been double footing ever since at lights, it feels wierd when i drive other cars, it is a pain, people hate driving it. This is a great solution, whats the availability like of Ghia/XR wrecked cars for their ECU?

there aren't thousands of the ECU's floating about, so expect to pay a little more for them, but def worth it, if only for the driveability of the car! most go for around $250 or so - contact darren (xr8dismantler) or nick (neo nick) @ fern tree gully auto salvage - they'll be your best bet by far!
