My EF has a fairly loud ticking noise coming from the head when cold which mostly goes away once warmed up. Also when it's accelerating the motor has a rattly sort of sound-it's not loud, but its there.

give it a oil change and flush fill it back up with some decent oil. might help

are you chaps talking about the hydraulic tappets?

They can be effectively removed-dis-assembled and cleaned then oiled up?
