Theres a EL XR6 that im seriously looking at buying but there is a ticking sound coming from the engine.

I was suspecting the valves?

Its loud enough you can hear it over revving the engine in a warehouse.

Can anyone help?

It could be sticky lifters. When my car had worn lifters it made a really really loud ticking noise. I could hear it above the engine, exhaust and cd player. I replaced them and the noise went.

Each lifter was $10 each and there was 12 of them so $120. Just need to take the rocker cover off and the rockers out, pull out the old lifters and in with the new. Gave it and extra 100km fuel range as well.

If its not the lifters (which i would replace anyhow as they tend to tick after a while) it will be an exhaust leak. Loose cat bolts, muffler welds broken, in my case a few extractor welds are broken, all of those can cause a tick.

I almost did the same thing the other day by mistake, what other parts of the engine 'seize up' over time, if replacing the lifters gave the engine above an additional 100km's thats a worthwhile replacement :)
