okh, um i dont know, i dont think it does as i carnt hear it when playin with the throttle under the bonnet, unless it gets so fast it is unrecogniseable, but you can hear it slow down when you turn the ignition of and then it stops obviously, you carnt hear it anywhere after 1700 RPM, but when driving at say 60ks i take my foot off the throttle and you can it the ticking in the idel when driving next to a car or wall.

To test for arcing, at night run engine and spray coil and leads with a spray bottle (fine water mist). This way even small arcs are very noticable.

cheers
Scott

Sounds like you are 100% sure its not valve train???
Then I suggest looking behind left headlight there is a solinoid purge valve thats connected to canister to inlet manifold via hose...If this valve is touching any body work it will rattle like you said....There will be two wires goin to it....

hey mate i had this ticking sound in my ef when i started it in the mornings. It went away when i reved the car. Just like yours it came from down behind the manifold area. Anyway i took the car to local ford joint and he diagnosed it striaght away. I cant quiet remeber what he said but it was about some torque bolts near the transmission which come loose. They cause the ticking sound. Anyway i cant quiet remeber the proper name of these bolts it was like Torque (something) bolts.

This may sound like a stab in the dark but my car was ticking exactly the same as yours and these bolts were to blame. Once tightened the old beast started turning heads for the right reason. good luck !!!

Torque converter nuts or bellousing in that case...
Check for exhaust leaks also and
around EGR it could be leaking ?????

f**k engine mounts causing something to hit something else on the intake side?
Would explain why it goes away when it revs, cause the engine would torque away from whatever its hitting.
I have an annoying 'tick' atm too, it's on the 'fix with new engine' list, along with an oil change...

Is the car an auto or a cogger?

I have the exact same thing, I know for sure mine is the one of the lifters. I've found that when it starts ticking its time for an oil change. How long has it been since you've changed yours? Cause if I change my oil in the next week or two I know that the ticking will go away for at least two months.

there's no weights in the distributor, they are electronic.

If the noise is near the bellhousing, then its not the distributor, the only thing down there is your starter motor, maybe loose bolts or something.

Cheers
