it wouldnt hurt to go a lil bit heavier than stock....... IMO the clutch is the weakest point in the falcon driveline by a fair bit.....

I just had a new clutch put in my EF. Options were Daiken or PBR, I got a PBR because they were in stock. Both are apparently a little bit heavier duty than stock but they'll feel MUCH lighter afterwards due to your original clutch getting heavier and heavier over time.
With my new clutch and cable fitted now it's rediculously light, lighter than my GFs festiva! I'd prefer it to be a little heavier but there's no adjustment you can make. Having already fixed a cracked firewall and broken pedal box with the stock clutch I'd advise against a heavy duty one. I was warned off them by 2 clutch places and Mark for IT's Performance says the standard ones are fine anyway. He's was running ~185 at the rears without dramas so unless you're running some huge forced induction I say dont bother with a HD one. Also when pricing them a standard kit was are the $250 mark and the HD ones were around $700...

Thanks guys, yeah a dont give the car a hard time as i spent to much time and effort getting her just right. What cost should i expect for fitting?
I havnt had any probelms yet with the firewall ( car has 92,000km on speedo) is puttinga new clutch cable in at the same time a wise decision? |

I have just changed my clutch in my EF XR6 Falcon last week, i shopped around and found a heavy duty clutch for $290. My brother is a mechanic and he got a good price for me. otherwise i think my clutch is worth about $400.
it might be a good idea to change ur pilot bearing too - my seized and was a c**t to pull out. at the end of the day it cost me $290 all up and i did the work my self. hey im not a mechanic but the EF-EL falcons owners manual helped heaps. also make sure u machine ur flywheel - i got mine machined and lightened at the same time. makes a small difference but nothing hectik.

You're doing a clutch at 90k ?
I just replace mine at 190! (my dad too in his VP commodore) The previous owners much have been really nice to my clutch because I've given it a pretty hard time in the few years I've had it I paid $450 supplied and fitted by a mechanic with all the usual stuff (flywheel machine, thrust bearing etc)

did you guys know that the XR6 pressure plate is the same as used in 5LSS commodores.
found that one out the other weak when i put a new clutch in my car. Know one here had a full kit so one guy ripped a standard GLI one out and an SS commodre one out and gave me the bits i needed |

I could do with a heavier pressure plate or something, mine is now rediculously light and what feels like less than 1 inch of actual binding when you slip it
I much preferred the previous feel of it grabbing for 3/4 of the travel of the pedal.
