Hey all,
I'm doing the timing chain on a 6 cyl and am now at the point of fitting new chain and putting it back together. Just after some tips and guidance? I understand the timing marks need to match up. Should I use any type of sealant around gasket? |

Depends on gasket. I used s**t aftermarket one with sealant and it leaks. The Ford original had some sort of a glue that melted and sealed the first time the engine got hot, or something like that.
Really really really recommend doing some research into the gasket... Also put some gasket sealant gunk on the long 10mm headed bolt that goes through the timing cover into the block (I think it holds the serpentine belt tensioner in place during final assembly...) Timing marks should match up. A little above the right hand side of the rocker cover if you have not moved the engine from TDC. |

Yeah ok ill have to have a look and see what gasket I've got, I suspect the type with the yellow line in
it is the self seal variety? Also how does the lower chain gaurd go in? And what's the best way to keep tension on the chain until you get the cover on and release the tensionor? |

Lower guide need to undo all sump bolts and drop it as far as you can. I normally superglue the guide into the timing cover
