This one has probaly been posted many times but Im just about at the end of my rope trying to get the tensioner to do its thing.

Ive got a Haines Manual and its bloody useless. Ive just replaced the aux shaft and its the first 6 ive pulled apart so I need some basic instructions of what happens. LOL,

Cheers heaps in advance.

Having trouble re-assembling the whole unit. I had to replace the aux shaft so Ive had the whole front off the motor and getting it to set correctly is just testing my patience.

ok so ur having trouble with the resetting the timing chain tensioner?? i havnt taken the front off a motor so i dont know alot there, but with the tensioner take the whole thing out and it should look like this ( refer to pic )
im assuming u already have it out , but yeh just click it so its all the way down , then put it back in so its up against the chain it has a cut out so make sure that its aligned up correct , then screw in the outter big body , till its almost touching the block then put a screwdriver in to the hole to make the tensioner spring out then tighten up the outer body, put in the filter and tighten up the inner screw, then check the chains tension
im not sure if thats helps but its hard to explain, so make sure all the o rings are good and use thread tape, when i put it my cam in didnt tighten up the tensioner properly and oil was pissing out every where when i took it for a drive i was s**t myself that i blew the sump gasket lol

Yeah I spoke to the bloke at work that used to work for Ford and he said that I just re-assemble the timing tension in its locked position, put both plugs in with sealant and crank the car over. Apparently the oil pressure will release the tensioner to its designated tension and all done.

yeh i just put the tensioner in its locked position, then screwed in the big plug so it was 3 or 4 turns off being tight, then put a screw driver in the big plug and released the tensioner, then tightened up the big plug then put in the small plug, but i think the oil pressure keeps the chain tight

No no no no no... Engine go explode then!

Put the tensioner in, then screw the big plug in tight. The release the tensioner. A 3mm allen key down the centre of the tensioner and turn it anti-clockwise (I think, its been a long time).

You will hear the tensioner spring open and see it put tension on the chain.

Then start the car, and the oil pressure will take care of the rest.

Oil pressure alone wont unlock it. Actually, it might eventually... But the engine would be cactus by then.

makes me wonder why i posted the link on detailed instructions how to set & release the tensioner, when the advice is ignored and thread goes into "she'll be right mate" tangent

hey it's the internet remember...

each thread asking for help requires a couple of answers,
at least 4 people to agree on the method,
5 people to offer a different way of doing it,
3 people to go off in another direction,
at least 1 post with porn,
1 person to take a quote out of context and get offended,
2 or 3 to quote the original post in full again,
and then finally the original poster to never come back again to say thanks for the advice and he's finished the job.

all good, lol

Took all the advice and I set it the way you guys said to. Put in locked then spring it back with the allen key. Now she dont want to start, got spark but I think the timing might be out a degree or two which hopefully will be easy fix.

Cheers for the input, much appreciated.

No start hey.

Either a really weak spark.

Or maybe more than a degree or 2. It will still start even if its 10 degrees out... Maybe its 180 degress out?

Im thinking that shes a couple degrees out, not 180 because ive checked it at No 1 TDC and the cams nearly flush with the rocker cover rail, R/H side looking from the front. Whats the easiest way to get the cam back without the big amount of crap to go with?? LOL.
