Just bought a nice new set of 8mm Top Gun ignition leads for the EL monty as the motorcraft leads were 8 years old and done nearly 90000km of service.
Anyway what i thought would take 30 min ended up taking 2 hours. Found the easiest way was to remove the dizzy cap, install the new leads on it and cable tie the plastic heat shields on the leads(1,2,3)&(4,5,6). Then I removed the TFI module plug, ran a pull wire through the inlet manifold, taped up all 6 leads, pulled them up through the inlet manifold, manourved dizzy cap up under inlet manifold and secure on dizzy. Then plug all the leads in on the spark plugs then plug coil lead in. Hope this helps anyway about to change there leads. Car feels heaps better, alot smoother acceleration, all the old leads had resistances ranging from 17kohms-22kohms(so they were out of spec) Cheers Luke. |

yeah i did mine on the weekend and i got bosch ones
i changed them one at a time and droped the end down to the distributorworked out ok but should have done it when the engine was cooler

i bought top gun leads once and will never buy them again - 3 of the leads the lead seperated from the contact after 3 months - i replaced them with boschs and havent had a problem

I use MSD copper spiral wound $130 for V8 with custom length kit so you can make your own size..

Quick Q. How do u know when the leads have had it? Think i still have the motorcraft ones on mine and its a 97 EL?

LOL if they have started turning white in some spots then they are F*** basically
 MY Eagle F1's have done this and its causing my LPG to backfire lol amounst other things.

Yeah Top Gun leads are good im getting 10mm sprial core ones put in very soon. I had Eliminator series Eagle f1's in b4 hand and they turned white on me so yeah... dont quite know what to make of that

I put a nice set of bosch leads on mine, and a brand new set of plugs. Cracked a head, took it in, and they shipped the head off, plugs included. returned minus a brad new set of plugs. Bit annoyed about that, so have the ones that they supplied. When the head cracked for the second time, they kept the same plugs, but damaged a lead, replacing it with.... a top gun 6mm lead!

No, Sprints should easily be able to get them in. As for determining whether its spiral core or not most of em have it written on the lead itself.
When you go to order them just make sure you tell them that you want spiral cores.

ive had a few sets of top guns on last 6 months and they are going white quite quickly, would there be any cause of this? btw do bosch make a spiral core lead?

Yeah I found Top Guns are absolute crap as well.Same thing with the boots sliding of the sleeves in to your hands etc. Eagles or Bosch leads are good

Top Gun = crapola
I've got Eagle 9mm I think (I forget!) - hard to run...but meh - it's doable...would have gone 10's or 10.5, but mech could only get whatever ones he got me at the time. |
